Just gotta add that I've had the Blue Dragon V3 for a short time now, for my 580/650. Never been a believer in cables but my mind has changed.. it's an improvement I can easily notice compared to stock. Love it!

The difference between blue dragon and stock pro 900 cable skyrockets when used with high end-ish gear with good bass detail. If someone could make a switch where you could switch between blue dragon and stock pro cable instantly, I'm pretty sure blue dragon headphone cable would be an ideal cable to use in proving the existence of cable differences because the difference in bass (with a sufficiently bassy setup) is instantly identifiable.

I know this is an older thread, but my question fits well with the debate

Drew obviously prefers Silver for the HD650, but would you still get kickass result from using Blue or Black? I'm thinking of buying a used BD cable from a friend of mine.

Like anything else it comes down to acoustical preference. We also all hear differently. Some people are more sensitive to highs, some are more sensitive to low frequency pressure. Equipment plays a roll too. I listen to a lot of Jazz, Blues and music where there is a lot of instrument separation. I like the speed, detail and air and the Silver Dragon gives me this with the HD650. I find the HD650 the darkest of phones and too laid back for my taste. Others interestingly enough find them bright. So it really depends or your impressions of the phone to begin with. If you want more weight and want to smooth things out go with the Black Dragon. The Blue is a very neutral, natural sounding cable that will cleans things up and add impact but not as much weight as the Black. Not as Full sounding.

i really really really like it compared to the stock Q40 audio cable, i've noticed 2 problems tho

1) regular 1/4 adapters can't fit, i've tried the stock 1/4 adapter of DT770 , DT150 and Q40, no dice, fortunately i still got this 1/4 from my older x-fi which fits without problems (looks like that Google ÁðïôåëÝóìáôá Eéêüíùí ãéá http://img.alibaba.com/photo/250944789/Gold-Plated-6-3mm-Male-to-3-5mm-Female-Stereo-Adaptor.jpg )

2) something must be wrong in the shielding, if i shake it in the air like a spaz (

) i lose singal, WTH ? i don't have these problems on the stock cable :S

Try holding the connector that goes into your headphone and bend slightly in all directions, if that makes it cut out it means the cable contacts inside your Q40 need to be bent so they apply more pressure on the cable connector.

If that doesn't make it go in and out, try bending the wire near the connector into your headphones a little bit in each direction. The conductors could be either shorting out each other or a solder point has gotten loose. If this is the case you'll have to contact Drew and get it repaired.

The adapters for the phones mentioned are screw type adapters. The mini plug only on the headphone end of this cable is screw type for use with the connection system of the Q40.
The amp end is a nonscrew type Neutrik plug. Thus screw type adapters will not work.

As for shaking the cable like a spaz. Is this a normal listening experience I should be doing too

I doubt it is the solder joints as the connector is filled with Hot Glue and in almost all cases prevents conductor detachment. Is the cable screwed all the way in. I know the Q40 is slightly different tolerance wise from the Ultrasone headphones that we build these for. But we have not received bad feedback from past Q40 owners. If you would like to send the cable in for check up, please email us direct. We will get it taken care of.

thanks for the replies, i've narrowed it down to the adapter, connecting the cable straight to a 3.5mm jack causes no static at all

On to the hunt for improving my gear, you just made another cable believer

Gotta admit....I have the hd650's, blue dragon v3, and little dot mk3, and I hear no veil....just superb music! with awesome clarity! Its better than being at a live concert! I've never tried the silver dragon, but don't think it would be worth the money.....love my setup the way it is....
