I was impatient and ordered the ATH IM50 from cdjapan instead with FedEx Shipping. Hopefully it will be here by next week. I figured the difference in sound might not be worth twice the price and I will just invest in a real good silver plated wire instead :)

Sounds like a good solution, I hope you will like them :)

I love the engaging sound of the Sony MH1C, but the cable is sometimes very disturbing!
What can you reccomend me? The ATH Im50 is similar?

No, they are quite different. IM50 is mid forward while MH1C is mid recessed and bassier. If you really like MH1C's sound signature, IM50 is not for you.

As ozkan said IM50 is quite different from MH1C, also MH1C is subbass emphasized while IM50 is more midbassy. However I found the forwardness of IM50 is more engaging though, YMMV :D If you looking for similar MH1C signature try Yamaha EPH100 or RHA MA750.

The im03 is huge, it is much larger than in the picture and bigger than im70... I dont know how im04 can even fit for some body as i dont even think it can fit me either.

From having im70 before, i can say if anyone was craving for more mids, vocals, mid bass, clarity, details, soundstage, the im03 will give you eargasm as i was craving for those from im70...and now i love the im03

It's huge but it fits right into your ear concha; yet, the nozzle is shorter than the IM70, which is good so it won't protrude. Honestly, I always have fitting problem with the IM70 than the IM03, the latter just sit flush on my ears. Only problem is that the memory cable is P.I.T.A with the IM03 so I got the Lunashop's clothed cable for better's ergonomic and comfort.

Outside of the CK9 to IM01 similarity, there is quite a difference between old and new. Read Jokers CK90 Pro review which I agree having owned or heard most of them.

"Being part of the Pro audio line, the CK90Pro is the black sheep of Audio-Technica’s high-end in-ear stable. Lauded on release as a CK10 replacement, it is hard to see how Audio-Technica ever intended to substitute the austere and impassive CK90Pro for the shiny and exciting CK10. But the CK90Pro has a place in Audio-Technica’s lineup even alongside the two consumer models."

The old sound is AT sound is different and dead now . The new stuff is weightier bassier, less bright, less clean, and less sharp of note. The metal is gone and the older design is gone for a more Shure or Westone type of design where each is similar but bigger as more drivers come in.  The sound is not any real upgrade more than different. I'm sure the ETY/more analytical fan will still like a CK100Pro more than an IM04 in many cases. The mid-forward and focused CK100 has no real equivalent in the new line. The CK10 and IM02, having had both, are not the same like Joker said above though a bit less hard to see as the foam in the IM02 is less dense bringing them a smidge closer together then the CK90 Pro was.

I have to tweak my IM-02 to bring the "shiny and exciting" back.

I had CK90pro but they were falling out constantly, however I liked their sound. That is why I'm considering CK100pro, as an original AT sound. Are there any other options which memic CK100pro sound? What can be an upgrade within $700? I tried W50 and wasn't impressed with them, now I don't know what to do, except for switching to custom iems.

Got my im02 and all i can do is cry ... It sounds 100x as good as i hoped for. Definetly does everything i was missing in the ue900 to be perfect for my taste.
It also surprisingly got more bass and less treble quantity than i thought it would have. Its the most balanced headphone i came across so far.
Just some impressions after some days of listening.

The
Does anybody know how CK100pro can be positioned against new IM0X series? For instance is IM03 an upgrade of CK100pro or the same thing in the different shell?

The CK100PRO can be seen as an upgrade over IM02 , an alternative to IM03 with a very bright and analytical sound. The IM0X series is seen to be more warm than the previous series
