Review of Audio Technica ATH-CKR9 & ATH-CKR10
Feb 8, 2015 at 7:52 AM Post #706 of 1,193
I'm going to Japan in a couple of months and I still don't know which to choose between CKR9, CKR9LTD and CKR10... I need something like the Yamaha EPH-100 bass-wise (I'm not a basshead but I like my bass to be full).

I guess I'll just have to try them in store when I'm there. Or can someone provide a comparison between the 3?

Just try them in store. They often provide demos there. No comparison would be as accurate as demoing them for yourself.

After reading through this thread, I'm starting to have an interest towards the CKR9 and the LTD version. Have a few queries though.

How's the LTD's treble compared to the IM50's?

Would I be correct to say that the LTD has sparkling treble but is less harsh then the CKR9?

Also, does anyone who owns the CKR9/LTD tried pairing them with the Fiio X1 audio player, without external amp and EQ? If yes, I was wondering if you could share your impression with me.

Thanks.

ive read people here state that the ckr9 would be something g good to own if you mention the shure se535. Don't know about earsonics sm64

I mention these 3, because they share a lot of similarities according to reviews, but I can't decide on either of them.

My tendency right now: SM64>CKR9LTD>Shure535

Don`t know about Earsonics but IMO definitely CKR9LTD>Shure535, for SQ but also for the whole over-ear vs down wearing issue.

.....for some reason they sell the CKR9LTD for around 200$ in China.

I would be careful about that.  I have seen the imitation Senn IE8 in Bangkok, and it is incredible how far counterfeiters will go.  The H-fi thread is here:

Yeah, as someone with Chinese ethnicity myself, I have extensive knowledge of the profession of Chinese counter-feints. I even saw one of these fake IE8 and IE800 myself on the street-market as Shenzhen is exactly the city where all these fakes products are produced

I will make sure to test them and do some research before buying. Thanks for your help!

Thanks, I think I will get both the SM64 and the CKR9LTD, for some reason they sell the CKR9LTD for around 200$ in China.

The retail price of the CKR9LTD is around US$215 in Singapore.

Where did you read those reviews?

Owning both SE535 and CKR9, there is NOTHING in common between those two, except both are IEMs and make sound.

I did read reviews and impressions of each IEM separately from each other and noticed that they share a lot of characteristics. I did a mistake then there it seems.

What do you think would be more suited for me with these conditions?:

Budget - ~400€
Source - FiiO e07k
Requirements for Isolation - prefer high, I want to be mobile with them, but I can deal with a little bit less too.
Preferred Type of Headphone - IEM
Preferred tonal balance - balanced-warm, thick, yet clear mids, don't mind lots of well-defined bass, well extended flat treble response
Past headphones - UM3X, Shure 420: both too flat sounding; Havi B3 p1: not enough bass, bass was great with bass-boost though, midrange is too thin and cold sounding; KC06A: Soundstage-depth too low, a little bit too cold, I like the overall frequency repsonse; Tenore: treble extension was not good enough, I like the warmth.

Preferred Music - prefer an all-rounder for female vocals(!), ballads, pop, classic, instrumental music

Thanks for your help!

You can buy the CKR9 on Jingdong. They are generally reliable.

I can confirm that that price is significantly less than the best price in Tokyo.  It`s a killer deal.
