Where to get the velours fitting to these cans?

I'll tell you as soon as I get home but the mod is described here on some these threads or its variants. They are coming from some Shures but I don't remember the exact model right now.

EDIT:

Shure SRH940 velour pads

I didn't listen to the 518 but, aren't those opened back? You should not compare open vs close back.

What are you gonna be using them for?

Thanks for your reply, I'll use them for music primarily, i like to listen many kinds of music, not only one in particular. It's my first jump from my old HD 201, so I'm not sure which should I get. I'm expecting a notorious improvement, that's my main concern. Unfortunately I can only spend up to 140 bucks...  =(

No, not a problem at all. I'll use them in my room alone. I have a FiiO E07K amp. The HM5 and the HD 518 were my 2 main options but I'm open to suggestions.

Ironically I spent more money in my amp than my headphones (HD 201)...lol,   however i do notice a HUGE improvement in sound with the amp and I think it's time to get better headphones.

Then I would recommend open back to be honest. I never heard that family of headphones but I don´t think these ones are gonna be better than the sennheiser open back. Read more about them though.

To be honest, if you don´t care buying used and having already the Fiio I would say try to go for the AKG Q701/K702 if you can find them cheap. Another option are the Audio Technica AD700X or AD900X (as well used). I bought mine used for 150$ and they are by far my best headphones. Pretty neutral as well. It´s is true that is better if you have a better amp, but I think you can add that later on. Let me know how your research progresses.

EDIT: If these are gonna be your only pair of headphones and you might take them out of your house, then do not doubt it and go with the Jaycar (brainwavz variants).

I thought somebody would appreciate this picture... :)

Although the set up is intended more for the AKG Q701... I finished assembling the O2 yesterday and had to show off a little bit. :)

And here goes the mod as well. I used other material instead of dynamat. The results are supposed to be very similar and I liked the improvement indeed.

I also use FiiO E07K with my headphones - modded HD555 and K702. I've never heard HD518, however I'd be careful with the cheaper Sennheisers, I remember HD515 were poorly made and the sound was anything but good. The same with HD419, awfull phones.
Mabe 518 are better, hut still it's a low entry cans. I'd recommend something else: HD558 are decent phones for its price.
For me HM5 are unconfortable as hell, the sound is nice, but I've heard better for this price.
Think about Audio-Technica ATH AD 700, quite nice cans.
But I love my HD555, today I'd take 558 for sure.

You didn't do the "pillow" mod , I think you should do It it make HM5 little more detail , the vent mod is good too if you find the bass bloat like me . I'm very happy with the HM5 after I mod It through a little heavier

I did it! It's just not in that picture. If I had included the material in that picture the Dynamat mod wouldn't be visible. :)

Anyone have any problems with intermittent sound coming from one of the ears? On the right side of my HM5, the sound's cutting out and I'm concerned the jack is loose as the cable is completely inserted. Suggestions? (Not under warranty)
