Well that just squashed my ideas of snagging a pair of the HFI-580. No matter what pair of headphones I try, they just can't compare to the low end, booming bass of the xb500.
Maybe powerful is the word I was looking for. I have tried the 750DJ, XB700 and Beats Pro and none of them compared to the bass that the xb500 can put out.
I want to snag a pair of 580, but I would hate to be let down once again. My last hope is the xb1000...getcha some

Did you find the headband (i.e. clamping force) loosened up after awhile on the 580s? I've got a pair of m50s and I tried out my friend's set of 580s, which were fairly new, and liked the sound but found the ear-cups a bit tight and uncomfortable. Maybe it is just because they are bit smaller then what I am used to and sits on my ear differently.
It will loosen up a bit after a while but a faster way is to leave it between a tissue box over night and repeat as necessary. My gripe is the pads. If I am going to keep them after comparing to DT770 then I will definitely be getting a pair of DT250 velour pads.

Nice review! I was currently looking at these two since the AD700's were extremely disappointing for my first headphones that cost over 25 dollars. I wanted bass and a richer fun sound so I started looking at these two. I've read that the 580's had more bass than the m50's so I was set on getting them over the m50's at amazon once they get them in stock. I also read threads that say the 580's are alternatives to beats when it comes to bass but with better highs and mids, so I was even more set on the 580's over the m50's. I really don't want to be disappointed again, so I think I'll just skip on both and not take the chance after reading this review. Maybe I'll just try the xb500's since they're cheap as hell.
Essentially, are the HFI-580's the DJ1's the same headphones, except for different appearences? Right now, on my list it looks like the HFI-580 (DJ1?) takes priority over the M50's.
