Sorry, but how is that good implementation? The second post might be in a different order of ideas than the first. As I pointed out above. My first post was asking for help with cleaning the old foam. My second intended post was with an article from the creator. Unrelated. Second post does not belong with the first.

For example, I can answer to you regarding a certain subject.

Agreed 100%. I use automated moderation on a regional weather site I own with ~16k followers, and it works very well to weed out unwanted posts, conspiracy theorists, and trouble-makers, But (unlike the current implementation here) it has to be done right so it doesn't cause friction for the users. Sure, this site is free, but the users are what make it a desirable place for vendors, advertisers etc. There's an implied quid pro quo that's not being reciprocated. Also true is that if you're not paying for a service, you're the product.

Here, I can answer to Astronomer's subject, which might be different. This additional quote + reply might've been added as a result of me trying to make a second post after my first one, one after another, and the forum taking this second post and adding it after I gave a reply to your post.

If you're not quoting someone on your second post, you may add a separator, for example, like this one (or it could be added automatically when the forum joins your two posts:

It makes sense to me, unless I totally misunderstood your use case.

imo this will contribute to many threads dying out

Indeed.

Many threads on Head-Fi are of a transitory style; i.e. many different members are engaged in an active but fleeting conversation/dialog, and older posts in the thread rapidly lose their relevance. Those type of threads are not materially affected by this change, if at all. Many Head-Fi members only ever engage in or read such type of threads, which is probably why they don't appreciate the problem. They see this forum primarily as a source for conversation/banter/arguments.

But other threads here on Head-Fi take the form of a semi-organised place to gather useful (sometimes indexed) information; a reference source (be it for music, gear reviews, DIY projects, headphone modifications and repair, etc.) Those are the threads that are the most severely impacted by this change and in danger of dying out. I would hazard a guess that those are also the threads of most interest to non-member visitors, who find/discover/see Head-Fi also as a community-contributed reference source of information, so those threads certainly help generate footfall for the sponsors' advertising.

In a rather counter-productive fashion, I suspect the threads that help attract most new visitors to Head-Fi are the ones most severely impacted by this change. The admins may or may not agree with that point of view (maybe they have the stats on that which I don't), and of course ultimately they are the ones to decide how they want to host this forum.

I may just start to post in threads randomly non-relevant contents. lol I'll do something that don't make sense back. Keep posting junk posts in between guys. Either that or just forget this crappy forum. Not worth the energy. Not like this forum has quality content these days. lol. It's all commercial bs.

Kinda like this.

I just wrote a long post to help out the newbes which is something I rarely do as I am a one thumb typer 😂
Then I get this stupid message that won't allow me to double post.
What happened to your freedom of speech there in America has it disappeared like everywhere else. 🤭

This rule came up to bite me in the ass again. I had a question on the Singxer SA-1 amp, but I could not ask since I was the last one to post in that thread.

I could have modded my last post, but that would not have (I assume) notified followers of a new post being added.

So I had to Google the question and find the answer. That is fine, but we DO have a thread on this amp...

Has anyone found a solution to this? I am blocked from a thread I participate in and I have no idea what is this double posting, when I did it, and how to fix it.

What's going on?

you cant make double posts anymore (two posts from the same person in a row)

you have to either edit your first post or wait till someone else wrote something in that thread till you can post again

that's just ridiculous..... I thought double posting is posting the same text twice.
People will just open another user to post "." so they can log into their main account and post again.

indeed, specially "information gathering" posts/threads suffer from this and i guess it promotes argumentative talk in the end, maybe thats what admins are hoping for?

imo it comes with more drawbacks than pros

I see the admins have stopped responding, probably hoping we will all go away.
I have something else to say but can't double post. 😂

Now you can reply!

I was thinking the same...

Double posting should maybe be counted as when you try to post in less than 10/20 minutes after your previous post, for example, if that post is the last in the thread. Editing your previous post after a certain period of time won't notify people of what you said, and notifications are an important part of our experience here. I am subscribing to a thread, and I'm expecting notifications. I won't just go and check if the last person who posted went on and said something else by editing their post.

Maybe double posts made within this time frame could be auto-merged - just informing me that I'm double posting is an annoying experience anyway!

TLDR:
1. I post something. During the next 10/20 minutes I try to post something else, and no one else posted anything else => Automatically merge these posts
2. I try to post something else after the 10/20 minutes have passed, and no one else posted anything else => Allow it to be posted!
