I did that Monday when it was 108ish. Left at like 9am and kicked it at my friends house then when I left at like 1pm it was 108 and i was like 14 miles away from home/work... I about died even when I had a camelbak on and drank over a gallon of water on the ride back.

You know its hot when your neighbor is in his driveway trying to fry an egg on a piece of tinfoil using a magnifying glass. Only thing I can say is, thank God for ac.

"Look, Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill and think things over. I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you."

That's what we in Colorado are being told....it's the El Nino. Yesterday was cold and rainy in Denver. We didn't even break out of the 60s and most of the afternoon was in the 50s. That is very unusual for late July here. We're usually in the upper 90s to low 100s this time of year. It's a dry heat!

Toronto's been abnormally cool all summer so far. I saw on the news that in Whitehorse, Yukon of all places, they've had several 30C + days so far this year. Unheard of for the far north.

You have no idea! I've spent a bit of time in Yuma, Arizona. I've been through a number of 125 degree F (52 degrees C) days.

But that's no comparison to 100+ in the Northwest. I spent many years in the Willamette Valley, and the humidity makes it completely miserable there. Further, most homes don't have air conditioning, so you're just miserable.

In Arizona, you have strong air conditioning everywhere, so you can get out of it. Also, when it's really dry, 120 surprisingly doesn't feel all that bad. The catch is that it'll dehydrate you in short order - by the time you feel thirsty, you're already in trouble. You have to drink at least a gallon of water a day, starting when you wake up. It's a lot of water, but you don't go to the bathroom at all.

Anyhow, I feel for you guys up there! I'd love to move back up - if only it weren't for family and work obligations.

Austin is probably going to break our record for days in a year over 100. The record is 50, we're already at 43 and it's not even August.

We're also in a drought categorized as "Exceptional" which is worse than "Extreme."

I was in St. Louis mid July and they had record lows. I went to a Cardinal game and wore long sleeves on the 17th... highs were in the low 70s, lows in the 50s. Crazy cool for July. Then down here we can't catch a break from the heat to save our lives (or lawns).
