Sleepy.ab - some of his albums are more experimental, and some more regular rock/pop. I prefer his rock/pop stuff; in either case though, he's got some good stuff.

One of the most original bands (IMO) is Merry メリー. Marty Friedman described their music as "a cross between 1930s music, brutal thrash metal and Japanese pop". This was a few years ago when they were new but I think that their new stuff is even better.
