K701 for classical - and analytical!

I would say also SR225, but I am now discovering the DT880 and loving them...

I foresee some nice headamp.. .. ..

What about the DT880?
The 770 is closed...

Yeah, the 880 definitely looks appealing to me now... now just to find a place to try them out.

DT880 you definitely get that Beyerdynamic signature, tight bass and brighter highs. Good for the rock listed not so hot for hip-hop.

The DT880 looks like it will cost a lot to get an amp to drive it... I'm not looking to spend above $250 for a headphone/amp/DAC combo...
if i could get a headphone that can be easily driven by my Zen Vision:M for ~$250 that would sound better than a cheaper can with an amp/DAC totaling $250, then that would be better...

EDIT: Also, what is quartermodding? And with the 414 pads I could make the grados circumaural? If that's not the case, is that possible?

iirc quartermodding is cutting a quarter-sized hole out of the middle of the foam so that there's less obstruction of the sound between the drivers and your ears. i think it makes the phones brighter.

Is it worth it to drop the $45 for those pads or is there a comparable cheaper alternative?
Also, how is the K601 for the type of music that I listen to?

If I had all that extra cheese....I'd spend it on the Darth Beyer ($345). It supposedly gives the best sound and most comfort, but *does* need an amp (DIY, iBasso, Xin Supermicro/mini).

You really don't need to be spending much more than $800 on computer equipment, whether laptop or desktop!! You can get a badazz computer for $800.
