Hi all,

I currently use a PCDP into a Gilmore amp at work, and am looking for a new one. It must have a line out and a wallwart powering option. I don't want to use my work computer for audio, so that isn't an option. Any recommendations for a PCDP to replace the Sony D-E307K that has begun skipping etc. Oh yeah, looking for something reasonably priced also

Also, I did pick up a Sony D33 on ebay (not here yet), but I am guessing it is going to show up in non-working state (seller refused to budge off the "it was working the last time I used it" and "as-is" clause, but it was only $11 so What). Maybe I can fix it (?)

The D-33's going to be awhile reaching you? Those olduns can surprise you - it may well be working perfectly. A couple of mine came with the same caveats & they were fine after I'd run em a couple of times. OK, my D-2 is getting temperamental but the others are going strong.

And I'd lay money it'll beat the bejesus out of any modern one you buy as a stopgap. Patience, Skywalker, patience....

I can recomend Sony's D-EJ1000 which is what I use in my hotel room setup. I have got 2 and got them on eBay for about 20 USD a piece. Only problem is that the rechrgeable batteries could well be dead when bought second hand, they were in both the units I got, and replacements cost 15 USD a piece, at least mine did at AudioCubes.

Got the d-33 today, not perfect cosmetically, but it works! A couple of questions:

The spindle pops off with the CD when you remove it. Is this normal for this player, or not? If not, any ideas on how to fix it?

Anyone point me to a manual; service manual with schematics would be great!

Thanks,

Chris

Hey Chris
Glad to hear the D-33 wasn't DOA! No, the spindle doesn't normally come out with the CD: don't know how to fix this tho, sorry.

Manuals Paradise has a range of D-33 stuff, for a price, including repair docs it looks like:

ASM have cheaper prices:

& User Manuals have operating manual for $9.99:

Sony op manuals are pretty basic IME -it'll be the schematics you want. Sony do have free online manuals somewhere, but not sure if D-33 features. I'll go look it up...
