Ace Ventura: Pet Detective - 4/10

I think "Dumber and Dumber" is one of the best comedies ever made, but this wasn't very funny at all.
I try, but I think I laughed only once or twice in this one.

Didn't like The Mask either, but "Liar Liar" is pretty funny. I need to buy the DVD of that.

Dragon's Back Race - 7/10

Documentary about a 5 day, 200 miles race across mountains in Wales. Supposedly one of the toughest mountain courses there is, but not sure. Surprised to learn how much faster people have been able to do it since they filmed this movie in 2012.

BTW don't you hate it when they do EXTREME close-ups of people's faces in documentaries? Why do they do this?!

Rx Run - 9/10

Short documentary about people diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety that start a running course and end with a 5k marathon.
Really made me want to start running.

Freaks (2018) on Netflix
5/10
Decent story albeit a little silly

I think the question at the time is if the actors with disabilities were shown in a good light or not. I think they were.

Then of course David F. Friedman and H.G.L. made their version in Bakersfield California.

The movie I referred to has nothing to do with that one, certainly not a remake of any sort

If you haven't already, check out The Barkley Marathons. That's one wild ultrarunning race.

Commando. Most likely worse then 50 shades of grey!

1/10. every actor has been instructed to have worse dialogue then Arnold to save his face. The result is one of the dumbest movies ever made. Arnie even half heartedly try to make fun of himself but fails with even that. There is so many scenes that show no thought process. Like couple not reacting to gun shots in the neighboring bedroom.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - 7/10

This movie gives me a headache, but it does have a few very funny parts.
My favorite is the scene where Steve Martin's character is in the wheelchair and gets hit in the legs with the stick repeatedly (he has to pretend he has no feeling in his legs).
Ruprecht scenes are kind of funny, but not LOL funny. Mostly just amusing.

PS one of Steve Martin's best movies is "Planes, Trains and Automobiles", but we all know that! Bowfinger is also really good!

Running for Good - 8/10

Another good documentary about an ultra marathon run through the desert.

Contact - 10/10

I thought it was impossible, but this is a movie that seems to get better and better after even a dozen viewings.
When I first saw it I think I only gave it a 6/10. I've now seen it maybe 50 times at least.
I actually think Jodie Foster's acting in this was good enough for an Oscar.
There's even some unintentional (?) comedy in here that always makes me laugh.
Most specifically the dialogue from the Christian Coalition group.

My only problem with it is the final scenes (which I won't ruin). It's kind of not more than a light show and has some pretty bad CGI.

It's too bad Jodie and Matthew McConaughey didn't team up for some sort of sequel or similar movie.
I almost wish she would have been in "Interstellar".

Also, all the small roles are near perfect. Everyone from James Woods, David Morse, Tom Skerritt etc.
This one has a really good cast.

PS After watching this again a few days ago I'd probably put this in my top 5 all time movies list (along with "Interstellar"!).

Absolutely underrated film. If you're at all interested in space, science, or "life out there," this is a huge recommend.

But was it underrated? Quite popular I believe? I absolutely loved it the first time and it wasn´t bad on the rerun som years ago either :)
