Knife in the Water - 4/10
Largely disappointing, given that Polanski's debut is acclaimed as an early masterpiece in some quarters. Impressive camera work and a nice jazz score don't fully compensate for the banality of the screenplay. I was expecting suspense but instead got a fairly unremarkable character study framed by an age old love triangle. The threat of violence is never real, so beyond a vague sense of claustrophobia and stagnation, any tension is dissipated.
Help me out here.
Polanski gets a free pass for his behaviour, but Mel Gibson gets a public flogging.
Am I crazy?
Or is the world crazy?
The world is more hypocritical today than it's ever been before...
Anywho, I just saw "Kung Fury"....maybe the most entertaining 30 min I've ever seen. An easy 9.6/10 rating from me.

I'm not sure whether you're implying I did wrong by posting about that film... Not condoning Polanski's actions, but surely we have to separate a person's public work from their private actions, otherwise we'd probably have to throw quite a lot of it away. For what it's worth, I think there are several reasons why Mel Gibson gets a public flogging and Polanski doesn't though: a/ he has a far bigger profile, b/ Polanski disappeared off the radar by fleeing to France and c/ a lot of people don't like him very much.
