A disturbing amount of incest at the end but oh well it´s the biblical way of doing things I suppose
 
Did it in three sittings so with my gold fish memory didn´t help much with remembering how some of the stories  started but oh well.

but the film still manages to fulfill extremelly well the primary premisse behind the manifesto:
to make itself worth only by the acting and storytelling merits while saving on techological resources and production artificialisms, all this to bring the viewer closer to the core of the movie. It worked with me for sure.
This picture has a realistic and fleshed out style and powerfull impact thanks to intelligent directing, minimalism of resources and almost immaculate acting.

 
My most favorite films of the 2013 - In the Fog, The Hunt and The Past - are executed in the same realistic style. By the way there is no particular ideology behind them. What you see is what you get. Probably in 'In the Fog' there are some nuances which make it more resonating and more comprehensible to the former Soviet audience.

I've rated 12 Years a Slave 7/10 which is underwhelming in comparison to widespread pre Oscar praise. I decided to watch a previous Steve McQueen's picture Shame about an sex addict which by its content reminds the recent Don Jon directed by Gordon-Levitt. After watching Shame it seems that I will not rate a McQueen's film higher than 7/10. I don't like his aesthetics and style, his desire to influence viewers by assaulting their senses. First what I noticed that there was accompanying dramatic music almost non-stop. I was thinking: give it a break, dude. McQueen uses all means to shock us: very long explicit nude scenes,  for example he shows in every detail how Fassbinder urinates in his bathroom by accompaniment of tense dramatic music. We watch how Fassbinder is ruining his life ( there are some wild and crazy scenes) and even ruining life of his sister because of what? Because he is a sex addict and escapes commitment? So much drama was based on a little premise in my opinion.
 
In 12 Years a Slave a premise to develop a drama is pretty serious I have to admit. There is a winning formula here ( it is easy to receive accolades from public because of the theme of slavery) and even pretentious McQueen's skills to shock viewers turn in his favor. 
 

  The genitals are exposed while the motivations are mysterious in 'Shame.'

Eraserhead - 10
 
Go to your basement alone, make sure it's completelly dark and silent then playback this movie and let yourself go.
This is David Lynch cinematic language in all it's surreal and bizarre magnificence.
To me this movie defines a whole new category of it's own.
I know it for a long time but I'm never fully done with it, no matter how many times replayed I cannot free myself from the need to watch Eraserhead again.
No other movie is able to make me feel like I'm daydreaming, as if Lynch had extracted a dream from my head and made it a movie.
Maybe that's why I'm not able to find anything less than perfect with it and give it a more imparcial score, seems like every single technical aspect of this movie was literally sculpted to it's last detail to induce me into dreaming, everything here works for the experience, perfection of a singular work.
I love this movie ****** all the rest!

Agreed on The Hunt though I haven't seen much from 2013 yet.
I expect to see The Past and A Separation soon.

I don't care what all the upgraded graphics and explosions in the movie are anymore. At times the CGI does not blend with the style of the movie, though generations from now no one will notice.

The Right Stuff - 10/10
 
One of the near perfect movies. In my top 10. It's about the early airplanes trying to break the sound barrier and the space program including the Mercury missions.
If you liked "Apollo 13", you'll love this one. This one is even better and less dramatic.
 
It has a perfect cast of Sam Shepard, Ed Harris, Fred Ward, Dennis Quaid and Lance Hendrickson. Even a small role with Jeff Goldblum.
 
Cinematography was done by Caleb Deschanel which is another huge plus.
 
BTW it's hard to believe, but they now have a plane that can hit mach 9.6. That's nuts!
They had one that could go twice that but it crashed at the end.
 
Also... if you like this movie check out "World's Fastest Indian". It's about a man trying to set a land speed record on his Indian brand motorcycle.
 
Interesting fact: I counted at least 3 F-words in this PG movie!
 
MacArthur - 8/10
 
A pretty good history lesson. MacArthur is played by Gregory Peck. It's an autobiographical movie about General MacArthur.
A lot of the scenes reminded me of the movie "Emperor" (which was terrible, but had a good scene with Tommy Lee Jones meeting the Emperor).
My only problem with the movie is that some of the acting felt fake and too scripted. Especially the one where MacArhur meets the president and Admiral Nimitz.
 
One weird thing about this movie is that it feels like 5 hours yet it's never boring. At one point I was sure it was almost over and I was only 1 hour and 15 minutes in! There is not much action at all, but mostly talking.
 
I think Gregory Peck is a better actor than I normally gave him credit for. He definitely doesn't even seem like Gregory Peck at all in this movie! I need to watch more of his movies..

Elysium - 9/10

Fairly generic save the world sort of plot but made very well, great scenery and artwork in the film and I'm a fan of Matt Damon. Made by the same producer as District 9 which I thoroughly enjoyed, film in a similar way, the camera is kind of almost like a handheld camera getting really close in on the nitty gritty bits.

Would recommend watching it

Really a great surprise; I thought it was going to be a heavy handed "we are the 99%" blah blah blah bull crap movie. It was not and I was very happy about that.....think American Psycho but more funny less murder. A great look into American excuse and greed with some incredibly gripping and uncomfortable bits in it.

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom - 7.5/10
 
A little better than the average reviews this has been given. I actually wanted to see this because Idris Elba was playing the role of Mandela. I really liked him in "Pacific Rim".
 
The movie is very slow going at first, but starts getting more interesting when he's in jail.
 
Some dramatic scenes needed to be a little more subtle, but whatever..
 
BTW It was 9:10pm on a Wednesday and I was the only one in the theater! Only one theater was playing this!
