Clean 7/10

Olivier Assayas' movie about the plight of a music-biz junkie (Maggie Cheung) after her middle-aged rocker husband ODs. Everybody blames her, and after some jail time she has to get clean in order to get custody of their young son from his grandparents (granddad is Nick Nolte, who's excellent). The kid parts could be better, but the look at her world (in Canada, London and Paris) seems accurate and insightful (Tricky is one of her former friends). Trivia tidbit: Cheung and Assayas were divorcing each other while the film was being shot.

Anamorph: 4/10. It only gets points for the gore and because I like Willem Dafoe. The plot is thin, the movie just isn't compelling at all (I didn't care one way or another about anything in it). And why, for Pete's sake, does the cool feature of anamorphosis, really the whole plot of the movie and even the title, only come in the plot in the last 10 minutes or so? Weak.

"The Painted Veil" [8.7/10] I remember the reviews of this movie were generally unenthusiastic. I really liked this film. Classic storyline. Ed Norton and Naomi Watts gave emotional, believable performances. I was really involved in the story throughout... [correction appreciated...]

Over Her Dead Body: 5/10. A few funny moments, but the story is kinda boring. The gags are too "kids' B-comedy" for me.

P.S. I Love You: 8/10. Yes, I'm back to watching movies again, you noticed?

. I thought this was a good one. It has drama, romance and comedy and doesn't feel cluttered but pulls it off believably. I admit, it's a chick-flick, but I wouldn't mind paying for a ticket to see this one. It's moving. I was pleasantly surprised by Hilary Swank in the lead role.

Mean Girls: 7.5/10. Back when Lindsay Lohan wasn't so bad as she is now. Plus, Tina Fey and Rachel McAdams are great. Good comedy.

The Devil Wears Prada: 6.5/10. Meryl Streep is great as the snob editor-in-chief.

Ocean's 12: 7/10. Amsterdam's always good (I'm Dutch

).

Ocean's 13: 8/10. Better than 12, a more rounded off plot (might be because it's the last Ocean). Shame that Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones didn't return for this one.
