He was going more for science fiction accuracy, with a decent amount of philosophy and mythology thrown in for good measure.

For scientific accuracy, we supposedly have Hawking/Sagan/deGrasse Tyson, etc. documentaries.

Not in terms of the story, but the scenes. There may be some exotic science, fine, but they shouldn't defy common sense atleast.

Overall I liked most of the 2012 movies but hated the avengers and batman. Hope 2013 superhero movies are better.

"hate" is tad too strong, dont you think?

I watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373469/

and I absolutely loved it. I'd give it 9/10.

Acting, pacing and plot were really enjoyable, highly recommend this movie :D

I also really enjoyed Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1307068/,

where Carrell & Knightley definitely hit it of ( 8+/10 )

And lastly a spanish movie, called Celda 211 ( Cell 211 ) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242422/

It's a really powerful movie, the plot is really intriguing! Definite must-see ( 10-/10 )

Jack Reacher 8/10
Slow in parts, but redeemed by the second half. Tom Cruise is at home playing the investigator. The script keeps things moving nicely.
This movie could've been made in the 1970s, and it would make no difference, the story is very classic in that respect.

Here you go,movie afficianados.
Empireonline.com Best Films of 2012 list.
This list is compiled through everyone at Empire staff submitting a personal top 10 list of their favourite movies released over the course of 2012.
These votes are then collated together to produce this bigger list, so if a film was in many peoples' top 5s, say, those movies ended naturally higher up on this longer list.
Empire is a British based magazine, dealing with mostly mainstream cinema but I like their annual list.
You can rant at them online if you don't agree.
Listed from the number one movie on down.

Avengers Assemble
Argo
The Dark Knight Rises
Skyfall
Beasts Of The Southern Wild
Sightseers
Moonrise Kingdom
The Raid
Headhunters
Rust & Bone
Life Of Pi
Chronicle
Holy Motors
Looper
The Descendants
The Imposter
Magic Mike
Young Adult
Amour
The Hunt

I've heard really good things about Holy Motors. The Raid (The Raid: Redemption in the US) I still HIGHLY recommend for action fans (and especially to the gentleman that enjoyed Dredd) I watched some of Moonrise Kingdom but fell asleep. I like Wes Anderson, though sometimes I find his movies to be annoyingly pretentious. Looper was great, but I can't believe Prometheus didn't make the list.

Frankenweenie 9/10
Have to watch it with the right frame of mind. The concept is unique, the characters are interesting, and the animation is top notch. I think kids would love it despite the macabre setting.

Cloud Atlas (2012) 7/10

The best looking indie movie you'll ever see (cost them 100 mil to make, all independently funded) Great cast, and fantastic editing considering the movie is comprised of 6 different stories spanning centuries, yet still is able to tell one cohesive story.

My only gripe was the story set in 2321 didn't really start making any sense at all till about 2 hours into the movie. And it didn't help that the characters living in the time after "the fall of earth" all spoke like Jar-Jar Binks. That's the true-true.

Overall very well done, beautiful and heartbreaking at times. Can't wait to see what the Wachowski's do with Jupiter Ascending.

Life on Pi 3D

5/5 the range of Ang Lee is just astonishing. All he touch gets to gold.

Insanely well done. The CGI makers must be extremely proud over their work. I believe I am not to bad spotting CGI. It´s annoying when you see it but here you have a damn tiger with tons of screen time 100 % rendered CGI but you couldn´t tell if you didn´t know! And even though I knew I couldn´t see it wasn´t real with any kind of certainty at any point. There is no uncanney valley syndrome. the other CGI animals look superb as well.
