The Town (extended cut)  6/10

The theatrical version is much better than the extended cut.

don't even know which version I saw, it was the DVD, don't know if it's the extended cut

Some Like It Hot - 8/10

Entertaining and didn't drag (pun not intended) on even though it was about 2 hours long! Been meaning to watch it for ages. Marilyn Monroe, well, back in her day she might have been something else but she doesn't do it for me, don't get me wrong I didn't dislike her just wasn't wowed by her - Good to see her with a Uke though... [for the film/uke buffs, what was it? Martin Style 0, Style 1?}

Winter Light. 10/10. I've seen it a bunch of times. One of my all-time favorites.

The Straight Story. 8.5/10. This reminded me of a certain Emily Dickinson poem. David Lynch is a clever guy.

Stalag 17. 8.5/10. Who doesn't like Billy Wilder? Ditto for William Holden's acting. I was entertained. High marks for all.

Flipped - 9/10

I only rented this because Rob Reiner directed it and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed every minute of it somehow and it seemed well made.
It's not for everyone. It's starring Aidan Quinn and the older guy from Frasier.

Wow, I also just realized this was filmed in Michigan where I live.

Well I got to see Tron, I liked it. I don't know what people were expecting really, the first movie was so cheesy. It could have been better but still entertaining. 7/10

Tron is pretty good as long as you leave right after he meets his dad.  Solid 7.7/10 for the first 30-40 minutes.

Btw, I see quite a few movies.  Does anyone think there is a better candidate for best soundtrack this year than Tron?

True Grit (2010) - 9.5/10

There are very few changes I'd make to this movie and it was near perfect. Two small scenes could have been done slightly better, but it's nit-picking.
The movie is kind of slow during a few parts, but it's not a big deal. Unfortunately I could only understand about 90% of what Jeff Bridges said.

I don't know why but Mattie kept reminding me of Dorothy Gale from "Wizard of Oz"

As far as western's go, I prefer "Open Range", but these two are different. That movie is far more entertaining and I liked it's characters more.

BTW this is coming from a person who HATES most of the coen brother movies!

I think I agree with you there, the movie kind of got worse as it went on. . . .

I'm getting both the inception soundtrack and the tron soundtrack for x-mas. . . I liked the music in both of the movies. :D

Inception: 8/10
Pretty good movie from a neutral perspective, but I absolutely love its themes and ideas.

Although rhetorical, that is a good query. Who could possibly not like Billy Wilder?! Good stuff as always JW, You have, by far, the most esteemed taste in this thread. As an aside, the Filmspotting podcast recently did a Billy Wilder marathon. It's pretty good if you want to hear a couple of film geeks talk about some Wilder films.

Let's see I've been catching up with some foreign films lately. Recently, there were the two OSS 117 films. The series is a French spy spoof that I find funny; basically a more subtle, refined Austin PowersCairo: Nest of Spies - 5/10; Lost in Rio - 7/10
