This was borderline pornography, actually some parts were...Let's just say there was a male's sex organ swinging around for a good 2 minutes *uncensored*. I felt the American social commentary was rather one note, how America views homosexuality/some racism humor. It was all really awkward, about 3 absolutely funny parts...the rest was so awkward.

i can agree on awkward. Not pornography. There were only about 20 other people in the theater when my wife and I saw it. I laughed at some parts. I shook my head (the one above my shoulders) at a few parts. The couple to the right of us did not laugh once. Im surprised they stayed the whole time. Im sure gays can take some offence to this movie right?

6/10
Borat was 10x funnier.

This is a true scifi masterpiece.

It's thought-provoking, sure... and it has wonderful cinematography, but I think this film is too wrapped up in its philosophical ideas to be truly enjoyable. Quite in the same way that Bergman tends to get wrapped up in philosophical ideas in his films.

5/10 for me.

Taken. 6/10 only because of coherent fight scenes (imagine that) and Liam Neeson. If this wasn't on Blu ray, I probably would have passed - but it was awesome in high definition.

Other than that, I've been chugging my way through the TNG dvds (a chore), and savoring my Mad Men S1 blu rays.

Lethal Weapon - 7/10

It stands the test of time, man. That we have crap like Rush Hour these days...*sigh*

Lethal Weapon 2 - 6.5/10

Silly in ways, and little too star-studded, but a worthy sequel. Also, I like anything where Pesci plays a sleazy sort-of-good guy.

P.S. nothing's more fun than taking a DVD player fully apart just to spray canned air in a few places, after it stops queuing discs. Luckily, it is back to working fine. They just don't build <$50 electronics to be disassembled and reassembled, these days

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon 4 stars out of 5

Honestly, this one was probably somewhere in between a 3 and a 4, but since I don't give half stars, I leaned toward a 4 star because it was a very clever movie.

One of the most FUN indie movies I have seen in years. A "mocumentary" about the rise and fall of a "slasher" (yes, the type of slasher you have seen a million times before in formulaic horror movies over the years). It is kind of a behind the scenes showcasing the daily routines of a slasher. Great tongue-in-cheek dialogue that pays tribute to the classics of the past (Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, etc). I was kind of reminded of the Showtime series "Dexter" as I watched this movie. I was all proud of myself when I figured out the "twist" ending long before it happened, and then upon further reflection I realized that the joke was on me, because the director WANTS the viewer to think that they are clever for figuring out the twist ending before it is revealed. The director knew full well that the Avid Horror fan (or even viewers with at least half a brain that are paying attention) would figure out the twist ending before it was revealed - very clever manipulation going on here. The movie lost a little bit of steam in the final act, but overall I really enjoyed the film and had a blast watching it.

This movie is a no-brainer for horror fans - go round up all of your horror fan buddies, and you are sure to have a blast watching this flick together. This movie would make a perfect movie to show at a Halloween party with a bunch of horror fans/friends. This movie is a requirement for any self respecting Horror fan to have in his/her collection...

Adventureland - Aside from the fact that Jesse Eisenberg is basically a Micheal Cera clone, this film is cliched in almost every way imaginable and totally predictable. Yet, I feel that with romantic comedies and coming-of-age stories, it's not a necessity to be new and refreshing. It just has to be believable because it's genuine and relate-able. This is where the film succeeds.

I love how at the end of it all, James corrects Connell on the title of that Lou Reed song. Everyone seems to grow up a little bit more over the summer in these kind of movies.

Much better than Superbad. 9/10

Final Fantasy: Advent Children. Found the DVD at a pawnshop. Didn't know there was another FF movie beside The Spirits Within.

8/10. A very good CGI flick, though the story is a little hard to follow at first, it's more of a "typical" FF story than Spirits. Another one I wish I could see at a theatre, but a 42" LCD and 5.1 surround renders it nicely.

Okay, so does Gran Torino receive your "Make My Day" award for best Clint directed film of the decade? Me, I'm very torn between Mystic and Letters, but will give my award to the later because of the subtitles, which must mean the movie was better.

Well, I haven't seen Letters in a few years, but from what I remember of the movie, I'm torn between that and Gran Torino for the best Eastwood movie of the decade. I would say Gran Torino probably would appeal to more people, since it's not a gorey war movie, so for most it might have the edge, but I personally love war movies and Letters is a shining example of such. I honestly can't give the edge to either one, but if it came right down to it, and I absolutely had to pick one, I would probably go with Letters. Gran Torino is a very close 2nd though.

I saw Up in theaters a couple days after it opened, also in 3D. It took some getting used to but when you did get used to it it looked great, I was pretty impressed. it was my first ever foray into the world of 3D film. Up itself is a pretty good movie as well. I believe I posted my rating of that one a few pages back if you care to look

EDIT: Wow, 14 hours later and nobody else has posted. Nobody watches movies on Thursday it would seem.

I watched two today (well technically the first one was last night, seeing as it's now morning), first was Magnum Force, the 2nd Dirty Harry movie. As good as I remembered it, 7.5/10. I just finished watching Se7en. I don't really know what to say about this movie to be honest, although I love Morgan Freeman - for some reason, watching this movie made me want to watch Unleashed again, which by the way is a great Jet Li movie - but I give it a high rating, maybe 7 or 7.5. Maybe it's the ending of this one that irked me. I hated the ending.

Watched Dirty Harry (the first one) two days ago, I enjoyed this one too. I love the Dirty Harry movies. 7/10. Even though I've seen them all a dozen times, it's probably been 5 years since the last time, so it's almost like I'm seeing them all again for the first time, and the first of the series, Dirty Harry, was in 720p. I need to buy the Blu-Ray collection. My roommate with the fancy TV hasn't even seen the Dirty Harry movies, I couldn't believe that!

*WARNING ABOUT SE7EN ENDING - I DON'T SPOIL THE ENDING BELOW, BUT I DO TALK ABOUT SOME ASPECTS OF IT*

Someone else commented on this a few pages back and also hated the ending. I actually liked (even loved) the ending because it was so non-Hollywood. You just don't expect something so horrific out of most movies, and the build-up to the "contents delivered" was awesome. i can usually see 90% of the movies I've seen endings coming, but I didn't see that one coming. That's why I loved it.

8/10. Think the plot was ok, but the jokes involved was pretty amusing for a teen.

I thought it was pretty funny too but I don't think it touches his previous movie, Old School. I was in France when it came out in the US so there was a two week delay. After seeing everybody on my facebook acting as if it was one of the greatest comedies ever made, I can't help but say I was slightly disappointed in the film.

6.5/10 (almost 7)
