Rank your Grados

1) SR325i
2) SR60

I've had SR60s for a decade but always craved more of its "dancing in your lap" Grado sound. Recently I acquired SR325s and they give this to me. Some say SR325is are not good for classical music but I say this is true only if you have just one classical phone. Since I'm a phonaholic I have many good classical phones (K701, StaxLP, Ety4P/S) but for that Concertgebouw lap dance only my SR325is will do. The question becomes, why stop at SR325is?

I've only had two so far and one is leaving soon.

1.225
2.80 ( modded with mogami cables and brass screens )

After listening to both critically and trading between the flats and bowls for pads, i found that the Sr80s came alive with the flats, and to me the sr225s sound better with the bowls, however the bowls hurt my ears after an hour or so whereas the flats I could wear all day. go figure.

Needless to say, I'm keeping the 225s for a long time

( I hope I don't have to get something better lol )

Seems like quite a jump, but makes sense with different applications.

I've owned:

SR60 (sold)
SR225 (sold)
HF1 (sold)
RS2 (just arrived)

I wish I had them all in a room to compare - from memory they all have a similar sound signature to me. I like how the wood flavors the sound - (HF1, RS2). I did have SR225 and HF1 at the same time and they were very similar in sound to my ears - the HF1 a little more rich and dark. I just received the RS2 and they seem to be in the same family as the HF1 - a richer, darker Grado - just with more soundstage and bass presence. The Shins (Wincing The Night Away) sounds great with flats. Wilco (Sky Blue Sky) sounds better with bowls. That's what I love about Grados is that you can switch back and forth between pads depending on what the source (or your mood) requires. No other headphones offer that, as far as I know. It's very much like two excellent headphones in one - one dark and rich (flats), the other more airy and detailed (bowls).

Whatever Grado you're wearing you're in good shape, in my opinion. The RS2 is my favorite right now because I just got it and it is so beautiful (older darker wood model).

- old black 325's (i love these cans)
- 2-year old 225
- 10 year old (?) 80's, new drivers a couple years ago

I spent a couple hours listening intently to some mint HP-2 last summer and a SR-71. That was bliss.

Cool, what was the story behind the acquiring of the HP-2s?
