How will you connect the Freya to the Jot-R?
To the output connections & then have the Jot-R at max volume & then adjust the Freya volume from the lowest setting? Is that correct?
I will try several combination of max to medium volume of Jot R.
With good collection of Nos 6sn7 tubes,
I may try different tubes in gain and buffer stage.

It will take a lot of time.

I received Freya+ two hours ago.

I skipped JJ stock tubes and inserted Nos Amperex 6sn7gtb in gain stage and Sylvania 6sn7gtb in buffer stage.

After running demagnetization tracks twice( 6min each) on Freya and Jot R, I started listening to Capricio Italian (Tchaikovsky) directed by Bernstein.

Wow, Freya with Jot R sounds much better than Jot R only with more relaxed and nuanced details but with minimal loss of transparency

While it sounds slightly thin with Jot R only.

Old Jazz recording by Benny Goodman sounds more relaxed with less hot edge from Freya and Jot R.

My digital source is Dave and HMS.

I use 20ft Purist Audio Design balanced cable between Dave and Freya and 6ft Synergistic Research balanced cable between Freya and Jot R.

I still have several choice of tube rolling with Sylvania vt231, RCA gray glass 6sn7gt and all quad Syl 6sn7 gtb.

Audio depends on personal preference, but Freya fitted with Nos tubes and Jot R sounds much more musical to my ears than Jot R only with overall nuanced presentation.

Although I had enjoyed fast and exciting sound out of Sr1a driven by Jot R for the last three months, I keep going back to 009s driven by Kgsshv Carbon amp to get more relaxed sound.

With Freya and Jot R, Sr1a move halfway between Jot R only and 009s with relaxed presentation.

I will also apply Freya to Kgsshv Carbon amp later today to find its effect on sound of 009s.

@thomaskong78

How is it all connected?
The Jot-R Pre-out to the Freya outputs & from the Freya input to the Dave? Is that the right combo?

Do you have the passive volume control in the up or down position?
Dave to Freya and Freya to Jot R all balanced.

I have volume of Jot R around two third ( one third from max)

Remote volume of Freya work very well for accurate tuning of each music.

After having Freya on for 6 hours, it makes Sr1a sound smoother with deeper bass.

I use no Freq. Equalization.

I still have several Nos tubes to roll.

More things to come.
:gs1000smile:

I am really happy to get Freya + in front of Jot R.

The only problem is that I had spent more than 1K$( more than the cost of Freya) to expand my collection of Nos 6sn7 tubes.

One tube is getting ahead, but I will disclose the name after spending more than 48 hours on it.

1. quad Syl vt231
2. quad Syl GTB made in 1955
3. Two Amperex 6sn7 made in Canada
4. Six Rca gray glass
5. Two Tungsol 6snygt "Mouse ears"
6. Two Syl GT "Bad boy " coming in next Monday
7. Two Melz 6n8s coming in May
8. Two Tungsol roundplate 12sn7(not sure it can be used for 6ns7 slot)
9. Two CBS/Hytron 6ns7gt

That is the list of 6sn7 tubes that I have.

I am listening to quad Syl GTB.

It sound pleasant to me.

But it will take a lot of time to mix and roll in gain and buffer stage.

Nos tube give Sr1a nuanced and clean details with fuller bass.

Freya also do magic to 009s and HD 800s.

I recommend other user of Sr1a to try out Freya in front of Jot R.

Quad Sylvania GTB made in 1950 can be obtained under 200$ with good value for performance.

Good news!

Freya+ with JJ stock tubes sound decent!

Thus you can try out Freya and Jot R without Nos tube.

Schitt offer generous 15 days return with some stocking fee.

Using socket saver, I had done some tube rolling.

All quad Sylvania GTB made in 1955 sounds neutral with somewhat gentle treble.

I had paid 200$ for quad from reliable Ebay dealer.

RCA gray tube in gain stage and Syl GTB in buffer stage give warm and lush sound.

Sylvania vt 231 which had been my favorite for last 2 years in Line Magnetic 508 int amp give more transparent and clear details when used in gain stage.

Out of curiosity I had gone to all quad stock tubes.

I had run demagnetizaiton tracks twice ( 6min each) and started listening to Eva Cassidy's "Autumn Leaves, Songbird" , "The Trinity Session" by Cowboy Junky and Trittico by Fennel for classical music.

I had expected somewhat etched or bright sound out of JJ stock tubes.

Wow Freya with stock JJ tube sounds very dynamic with good details.

Compared with Nos tubes, it is slightly veiled and lacking refinement, but it is still quite listenable.

It will improve after break in.

Users of Sr1a and Jot R can try out Freya with stock tube.

If you like the combination of Freya and Jot R, then you may buy Nos tube depending on your taste.

Syl GTB sounds neutral, Syl vt231 sounds detailed with excellent transparency while RCA gray tube sounds warm and lush.

Have fun everybody.
:)

I am still waiting for delivery of "Bad boy " version of Syl on Monday.

I will update on it next week.

15 minutes ago, I connected HD 800s to Freya RCA output using adapter called "Hosa YPR-257" bought from Amazon.

I am listening to same 10 tracks that I had listened to Sr1a for comparison.

Freya + with tube output is a killer amp for HD 800s too.
The preamp out of the Freya has enough power to drive HD 800? That is very surprising.

Yes it does.
I had not expected such great results.

One possible explanation is high impedance and high efficiency of HD 800s.

Tube output is voltage source rather than current.

Freya RCA output may not drive low impedance headphone with low efficiency like Abyss 1266.
