In my experience the more resolving and transparent the transducer is the more important are the quality of amp, DAC, source and cables.

The foam earpads are quite expensive to replace at $99. Are they expected to need replacement routinely (i.e., from compressing over time from the clamping force, such as what occurs with the HD650)?

I was thinking about Hugo TT2/M Scaler and TToby setup with SRH1A

The TToby deliver 100 Watt at 4 Ohm, so that will be roughly 70 Watt at 8 Ohm.
According to Alex, we need at least 100 Watt at 8 Ohm and this strictly class A and no switching powersupply.
So the TToby doesn't put out enough power.
TToby as monoblocks should work though.

Yeah, you are right, I didn't check Technical spec, now I see that it can deliver 100W but at 4 Ohms. So Etude should be sufficient, but it will not fit into one rack stand with Hugo TT2 and M Scaler.

I've heard the Empyrean and briefly owned the Ether 2. This is not going to be a close contest lol. They wouldn't even be a contest for the HE1000se.
I beg to differ on the Empyrean vs any of the He1000's.
