I am curious about which tap (8 or 4 ohm) tube amp users have found mates best with the SR1a.

I use 4 ohm, don't know that it sounds that much, if at all, different but it's just closer to the impedance load the interface presents. But I've always tended to use 4 ohms with my speakers over the years as well.

Nice! You need to get Tung Sol 6SU7GTY black glass and RCA 5691 red base just to complete the collection 😁

Pretty nice review.
I do like the amp interface box a lot more than the reviewer. I have tried a lot of amps with that box.

I spoke to Danny the other day and he got me all pumped up about listening to the new tube amp (that got damaged in shipping). I hope to do that in November or in January at the Newport, CA show.

My current (hopefully final) SR1a setup looks like the following:

1) KRELLK-300i integrated amp with internal DAC + RAAL amp interface box + SR1a (bedroom system)
2) Benchmark AHB2 (an extra amp) + CODA 07x preamp + RAAL amp interface box + SR1a + Accurate Sound Convolution filter for the SR1a (office system)
3) Maybe new RAAL tube amp. Need to hear it first. (office system)

BTW - The CODA 07x preamp has 2 XLR outputs, 1 for the SR1a Benchmark AHB2 amp and another for my floorstanders. The 07x is excellent with the SR1a and makes this setup work sonically.

Yes, but you also seem to change your front end more than you change underwear.
I still find the HSA-1B a good option for those whom don't want to deal with speaker amps or DIY direct-drive amplification and complement with xyz planar.

I do not change the underwear that much.

I even sold my LSA Voyager 350 GAN amp last night after 3 months. It was not bad with the SR1a, even better after I got it modded. I sold the Voyager for $200 less than the amount it cost me. I was trying out a few amps this year with some funny money I had. I realized I needed to hear gear at my house before I could decide.

Underwear are overrated.

It was not a criticism just a passing observation. You're having fun.

the amazing thing about the sr1a is that it is so detailed, so wide open and so clean sounding that any HP I listen to after it sounds at first veiled....and that includes other TOTL HP's..I do not mean to say it is the best but only that what it does well nobody else can do as well

Have been casually observing the threads. I've felt no need to look for reviews for anything...the SR1a fully open + sub combination continues to be beguiling to the point of occasional disbelief. I'm listening to this setup more than all of my other stuff combined.

It's great to feel an itch scratched. Upgraditis is gone for now.

After some exposure to music listening without encapsulating my ears the comfort of air flow is tough to beat but does put a premium on a quiet ambient environment for listening, which I do have on my upstairs rig.

Of course I've got to get a CR1a (?) just because its a ribbon driver, and hear what the what is with that design. It may be a plus in a less than quiet ambient environment or at least no worse that other open back ear cup design phones and could be the ticket to better isolation with my downstairs rig that is a noisier environment with refrigerators, water heaters, HVAC, the parking lot, and so on.

I just posted a review of the SR1a on my YouTube channel:

Enjoy!
