R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

My OG R5 has finally developed an issue-the 3.5 mm jack is wearing out and at times the sound comes and goes in one channel. Looked inside and appears replacing it is beyond my skill level. I'm considering using a 4.4 mm to 3.5 mm adapter but wonder if that will work with unbalanced 3.5 mm IEMs or when plugging into my car 3.5 mm input. Has anyone used a 4.4 mm to 3.5 mm adapter successfully? I found this one on Amazon but have no clue if it will work or blow up both the R5 and my car head unit.

Unfortunately, might not blow up your R5 but it wouldn't sound right. You'd be shorting L- and R- to a common pole.

Hell freezes over, the R5 (and R6, R6 Pro) just got a firmware update. Really fantastic support!

Changelog:
1. Added PEQ function (Audio Settings -> PEQ);
2. Updated HiByMusic version number to 6072;
3. Fixed issue where Apple Music version 4.7.0 cannot work;
4. Various bug fixes;

Edit: Tidal Max seems to be working also. It wasn't last time I checked.

I updated my OG R5 and everything is fine. I did do a factory reset, but that's just me. Been playing with the global PEQ most of the day...

I updated without any problem but after updating and opening the Hiby app, the device suddenly rebooted itself and this image came on the R5

I restarted the device by holding the on/off button (waited slightly longer than usual) and when it booted back, everything was ok. Opened Hiby Music App without any problems and checked that the PEQ function was indeed added. whew 😥

1. Try again with any SD card removed
2. Tap upper right 3-dot button->clear update cache (or similar wording)

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum. I have a question I hope you can help me with. I have Hiby R5. The other day I was having a problem with Amazon Music only playing in standard definition even though the setting were set to HD Ultra. To make a long story short I read to unload the Amazon app and reload it. When I go on Google Play to download the Amazon Music app it says device not compatible. It doesn't even show the app on the Play Store. Does anyone know what I could try. Thanks.

I believe that version 24.2.0 is the last version to support Android 8.1. Newer versions require Android 9 or above.

The Hiby R5 battery had swollen up. Ran a CT scan on the the swollen cell and it's of the lowest quality by our standards here at work. Hiby needs to find a better battery supplier. Anyways, I stuck in a used ATL cell in the R5 and got 4AH now vs 3.5 stock. This cell will last me way longer vs the stock one.

Hello, It seems you know what you're doing, when it's about batteries...
I just replaced mine, after finding a model that seems to be manufactured on purpose:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006626970577.html

But, the problem is, that the original one is 4.35V/cell maximum (nominal 3.8v), whereas of course, the replacement is the more usual 4.2V/cell.

So the R5 software is unable to identify 4.2v as 100% ; once charge stops the gauge is at 92-93%, and the worst; when it reaches 1 to 3% and stops by itself the cell is still at around 3.6V 😕 So I'm unable to take advantage of the whole capacity of this new cell, even if I do not trust the 4500mAh figure that's written on it 🙄

I tried to do one full charge-discharge cycle so far, in order to "calibrate" the android gauge, with no success...

Any advice ?
For those who have changed their battery themselves with aftermarket cells; do you have this kind of issue ?
When I put the battery in it was at ~3.7V, maybe I should charge it fully then, disconnect/reconnect it ?
Maybe a factory reset would clear the old values in Android ?

Thank you in advance...
