R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

One other notable. Usually the web stops loading pages and then shortly after streaming abruptly stops as mentioned and Wi-Fi on r5 says connected and Icon is on on top of screen. Oddly enough the Wi-Fi up arrow flashes a couple of times with bottom arrow showing. Then they both disappear and reappear and do same thing. Bottom arrow never flashes. I have had situations where music continues for 5 or so minutes before quitting (maybe it’s buffered). But the browser loading line stops a tad after it begins. True for via, chrome and Firefox. And always on 5ghz of mesh routers tested. Never on 5ghz of traditional routers with 2 ssids. Just trying to be as clear as possible since this kind of stuff is confusing enough.

Has anyone had to deal with MusicTek for support? I purchased my player from Amazon which MusicTek was the seller. My unit is exhibiting display flickering and display corruption. I noticed they do not have any in stock on Amazon right now for a replacement. The unit is brand new. I wanted to reach out to them to explain the issue and see when they expect to get replacements in on Amazon.

Another interesting update-tried an iBasso DX160 on that netgear orbi mesh network that has one SSID for both 2.4Ghx and 5Ghz bands and the wifi connection is rock solid. It has other issues but wifi is not one of them. So after testing multiple router configs and devices including sony, activo, pioneer, samsung phones, iphones,and now iBasso it seems the R5 has a networking problem when it gets switched to 5Ghz in that type of setup. No other device manifested that behavior only the R5. Hiby has said they have forwarded it to techs but fixes like this are complex according to them. I hope they get it fixed as it's a great little player.

I just received my new R5 today and I have been trying to perform the OTA update and it consistently fails to install after the reboot. It is currently on 1.13G firmware. Anyone have any thought about how to make the update take? I tried a system reset before installing any apps and running the update again but no luck.

Eject your sd card from settings then update

Guys, does phone volume control work when R5 is playing as Bluetooth receiver? It doesn’t work with my R6Pro. I can only control volume on the DAP but iPhone volume control doesn’t work. Thanks

Just looking at the Black Friday deals on Amazon and just seen the Hifiman HE400i (35 ohms and 93dB). I have no idea when it comes to working out the figures, so could anyone comment on whether the R5 will be able to drive these headphones directly? Thanks.

Also, just for a bit of information. I managed to try out an iBasso DX160 the other day to compare with the R5.... The £50 extra that the R5 costs is so worth it! The DX160 feels and acts like a budget basement player compared to the R5. From the feel of the player to the stripped version of Android that they use, the Hiby is so much better.

The R5 will drive the 400i with ease.
