i know that it's all about implementation, but just like a normal dynamic driver can't reach the speed and details of an electrostatic, i've been wondering which one between a planar and AMT has more potential as a driver.

amt has high treble distortion. Look at ASR (audiosciencereview) review of the Heddphone. I don't think AMT is a good option for headphones

thanks, so in your opinion, you'd take a planar over amt? been wondering about those drivers for a while but can't find a specific answer to what defines both drivers

I sometimes wonder as well about the driver types and the speed. I heard so many times that the Utopia is faster than the HE1000 for example. I'd also like to know how much faster a 009 is over a Utopia.

As long as you stick to something unspecified as "faster", you will never find out.
I can imagine it could (and should) be translated into something measurable.

Impulse response (ringing should be low)
Square wave (rise time)
