Hey fellow Head-Fiers,

I'm looking for a specific watch and so naturally, I came to the all-knowledgeable Head-Fi for answers. I saw this one at the Vancouver Art Gallery a couple years ago, never bought it, and have regretted it since. Here is my description of what it looked like:

The watch didn't actually have moving hands, instead it had moving faces. There was a single line fixed in place at what would normally be the "6:00" position, that acted as the hours, minutes, and seconds hand.

The watch had three faces. The bottom face was the "seconds" face, numbered 1-60. This was the largest face.

Set on top of that face was the "minutes" face, also labelled 1-60. This was a medium face.

On the very top was the "hours" face, labeled 1-12. This face was the smallest.

All 3 of the faces would rotate, and you would read the time by looking at the line and seeing what number the face was at, ie. which hour, minute, and second that the line was currently at.

I recently saw that Nixon has a watch similar to this, but it was about $400. The one that I saw was closer to $150 or $200 max. I don't remember the brand name. I thought it might be an Allessi but couldn't find anything when I searched.

Does anyone know what this watch is called? have you seen anything like it? I really like this idea of moving faces and a fixed, single hand.

Thanks in advance.

It had this sort of style, except the full face was exposed rather than covered, and it was round rather than square.

These are awesome but they are $400 unfortunately. A little too pricey for this stage of my life.

So more something like this? It's only $13 and it's sold out (and it's very ugly), but that's what you're referring to right? Except this one has the hand pointed upwards.

Probably not what you're looking for, but Angular Momentum has a nice series of watches built around this idea.

The concept has been around for awhile and has been knocked off in a number of creative ways by many companies. They're usually called "mystery dial" watches - that search term should turn up some on eBay.
