Namely phoning up Quad to score some replacement leather angled pads.

The service dept seemed charmingly surprised... they had not sold any before.
Price was £66 (ish).

Going to be fun to compare Chris, trying to revive the Mojo-1 bass test with these.

Just got my hands on this beauty. To be honest I never saw myself buying a planar do to how off the imaging sounded. When I heard this though like my DD endgame ATH-AWKT I wasnt impressed at first but I kept coming back to the store just to hear it I knew I had to buy it.

While I agree that it doesnt have the best detail there is just something magical about this headphone that keeps me coming back. I think its the bass shapping that doesnt sound like the 2D bass that alot of planars sound.

Edit:
Interesting dispite the velor hybrid pads being warmer its actually alot more distinct in the saperation. The fenistrated pads have too much treble diffusion for my tastes.

If you want the soundstage, clarity, and general tuning of the 800S, but with better bass, more resolution, and far less distortion when EQ'd, then I'd recommend the HiFiMan Arya. The v2 at least is an excellent headphone to complement the ERA-1 in the ways you mentioned.

Even though I have some more serious headphones I have no desire to sell the Quad ERA-1. It seems to me that if I sell them, I will miss them.
