Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread

Getting some absurdly high CPU usage with the Qobuz app on macOS 11. Streaming any hi-res track brings my 2020 quad-core i5 to a screeching halt. Lowering the quality to CD (16/44.1) seems to help a lot, but this sort of defeats the purpose! I've sent a customer support ticket but wanted to see if this is a known problem.

Edit- Looks like the web player on Chrome supports Hi-Res (not on Safari though) without running my CPU into the ground. I'll use that until the desktop app is fixed. Windows app fortunately isn't giving me any trouble, so I can take advantage of exclusive mode when on that machine.
I also reported that issue to Qobuz, they said they will investigate.

Same here. My MacBook really struggled when playing192kHz. Luckily there wasn't too much 192kHz content available. But it only applies to Qobuz stock app because Roon doesn't have this problem.

Hi everyone!

Have been using Qobuz for a few weeks now, comming from tidal and the whole MQA debacle, so far I am really liking the UI and curated playlists.

However, the windows app is causing me severe problems. It is a power hog. I have been trying the web player, but that causes other problems with my dac (schiit hel 2). Especially in the higher bitrate songs weird stuff happens sometimes.

How do you listen to Qobuz? I don't have Roon, and honestly have a hard time paying 10 bucks a month for it... (although I do pay 30/year for volumio). Are there other programs that runner better? I don't need the streaming capacities just a windows program.

Are you familiar with the problems with high res songs in the qobuz web player? My dac is also quite new so I am not sure if my dac is the problem or the web player....

Curious to read your thoughts! Right now both the windows program and web player result in stuttering sometimes, which is such a shame for this awesome audio quality

Edit: Audirvana works great for now! But yeah, that is only free for one month.

I only used Windows to manage my playlists and library. Does an iPad or Android tablet work for you? If Android, UAPP is great (have it on my phone). I ended up getting a Node 2i for streaming music and that works with Qobuz as well.

I have Qobuz Sublime.
(I also use JRiver Media Center, Spotify Family, and Roon)
I agree that Qobuz is buggy. It will often stop playing in a playlist and need a reboot.
I use Qobuz to discover new music and purchase Hi-res using Sublime for a discount.
Previously I would purchase from HD Tracks.
I am a longtime JRiver Media Center user and that works, but I have been moving to more use of Roon (lifetime).
I may get a Roon Nucleus+ to separate computer bugginess from audio (whole house, mulit-zones application).

Honestly, with all the problems I have been founding over different systems, Roon is starting to look like a pretty decent deal. Funny how perspective can change, I wasn't going to pay 10 bucks a month last year, but some Focals and Lynn amps later, 10 bucks seems like a no brainer when you are otherwise constantly having issues on multiple systems....

Right now I am using the audiovarna studio trial, which works fine. I hope Qobuz fixes their app when that is finished, otherwise I might have to try Roon...

I'm also using the windows app and no issues - not too bad a resource for me. I like it.

I can confirm the Qobuz Mac app slows everything down when playing 192kHz content. But unlike before the playback itself is very smooth without any stuttering. Anyway, this is another incentive to keep my roon subscription.

Anyone plan to switch to Apple Music after its lossless/Hires content become available next month?
The only downside I could see is it probably won't integrate with Roon and the implementation of bit-perfect playback remains in question (like Amazon Music HD).
The interesting thing is Amazon Music was forced to provide Hires at no extra cost. I'm wondering if other streaming services will follow suit. Anyway, it's the best time ever to starting streaming Hires music!

It will be extremely difficult for small stream services like Qobuz, Tidal to survive when all major services begin to offer lossless music...

Depends. I don't want to use Apple software (and its simplistic limitations) to play their tracks. If Apple opens up an API, I'd be more worried, but that goes against their core tenants.

I would be more than happy to use Apple Music (since my family members already use it, so I kinda have to pay anyway) if they opened up their API so that I can have it integrated in Roon.

I use the windows app into my Jot 2. Yes, it's a resource hog, but I have an Alienware laptop with an i7-10875H, 32gb RAM, 2070 Super, and all SSDs. The fans spin up a little, but nothing compared to games. I haven't tried running it into my Hel 2 though.

Waiting to see what Spotify offers later this year.
Spotify apps have one thing no one else as far as I know - you can control playback from any device you want. Think of it this way - I start playing music from my laptop (connected to a DAC + preamp + power amp + speakers) but then from other room, I decide to skip a song and I can do it from my phone. Tidal tries with their Tidal Connect, but this exact feature does not work (I contacted their support and they do not have it integrated, nor anyone asking for it really). The only way to achieve this functionality with high res is using Roon as far as I know, that’s exactly what I do and why I pay for Roon.
