Pure i-20 iPod/iPhone Dock as a DAC

I'd be really curious to see how they compare. I guess I would expect the Solo to sound better, but I'm really happy with the Pure's own DAC, VERY noticeable difference compared to iPod LOD, no comparison actually. I plan on getting a decent DAC (NFB2? DACmagic?) and running coaxial, hoping this will be considered a true hifi source, using lossless of course.

To anyone who knows, would it be worth it to upgrade to a ~ $300 DAC, or would it not give much of an improvement over the PURE DAC? I want to upgrade, but I'm torn between buying something mid-fi (roughly $500) or something a little cheaper ... never used a DAC before, besides this Pure thing, so I'm not sure what to expect from a $300 DAC versus a $500 DAC ...

any thoughts?

So I accidentally ordered two of these. Guess I'll find how good they are in stereo. If anyone wants to take my second unit off my hands that'd be great. Pure said they cannot cancel the order. Looking forward to getting them.

What's the point of the i20's 24bit/196khz DAC if the iPod won't even accept 24bit/196khz music files? I can't even upload my 24bit/96khz music files onto my iPod. It just says "...was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod"

The point is the future.  iTunes does support 96/24, so at some point, iDevices might.

I guess that makes sense. So maybe a new iPod software update will come out with compatibility for 96/24 music files? Or do you think they'll force people to buy a new generation of iPods to get that compatibility?

Why is the only stock of this *potential goldmine* stuck squarely in Britain ? Surely Pure can sling their distributors a few units ?

Thanks Roggae! I have new issues now! LOL ... my 650s showed up and I find my KICAS amp to be lacking power or something. Really underwhelming. So now I need to find an amp that can do these justice. The Pure is the coolest thing I've owned, I cannot believe it's so cheap.

I've been searching really hard lately for a full size amp+dac to use with the Pure i20. I will basically use it to send the digital audio out via a coax/optical cable and it will go to that full size amp+dac's coax/optical in. So the audio will be running through that full size amp's built-in dac and my headphones will be using that amp. It has to be something more powerful than the FiiO E7/E9 combo I have now especially for powering my Thunderpants. My budget is around ~$300, that's probably impossible to find from what I've seen. Does anyone have suggestions?

(It could be a seperate amp and dac as well, but they'll have to be able to work altogether with the Pure i20.)

Perhaps the Aune dac+amp combo

So I plugged my i20 in last night and used the analog outs to my little dot mk 3 and I'm not overly impressed. I only listened for two hours but I didnt notice a measurable difference from my stock apple dock. I'll have more impressions after the weekend.

Are you listening to lossless or lossy files?
