I'm looking to connect my hd 598s to the PS4 pro without having to connect them through the controller. I'm using a monitor with no headphone jack so that's not an option.

So my options are to either buy a dac/amp or one of those astro mixamps, both of those being connected via optical. I don't really want to spend over £100.

I found this dac/amp: https://www.lindy.co.uk/audio-video...s-c105/spdif-dac-pro-with-headphone-amp-p7010 It says it has an output impedance of 16-32, would that not be too high as the 598s are 50ohm?

Any other dac/amp suggestions?

I know the mixamp also has the surround capability so I'm going to have a listen on youtube to see if I like it or not.

Thanks!

I would try and talk you into getting the Hifimediy optical DAC $59 (44 GBP) + shipping ($5-$8).
https://hifimediy.com/SPDIF-9018-DAC

So if you went with the Astro Mix-amp, you would get headphone surround sound, from a gaming console (PS4 Pro).
The Hifimediy would only offer stereo headphone audio, but the sound quality should be better then the Mix-amp :)

That 16-32 Ohm figure looks suspicious to me. Output impedance normally isn't given as a range. It wouldn't surprise me if that spec sheet was written by a marketing or sales person who doesn't know what output impedance is, someone gave them the recommended headphone impedance and they confused that with output impedance.

Hmm yeah think your're right, thought it looked odd as most amps in this price range have low output.

Give the FX Audio DAC-X6 a look.

Great little DAC/Amp for the price given the features and will be perfect for what you need.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would if possible like to get something from the UK if possible, both of those are only available from china here

If you buy it in the UK, it will cost a fair bit more.
