Just read that an arcade perfect Tekken 5 is available for download for $20. That would get me playing the PS3, at least for a little while

Yep! That is why I revived this thread (see above). It looks awesome in
1080P!

Its just lame. I have a Harmony 880 universal remote that I can use with ALL my other equipment, but for the PS3, I have to use there BT remote or the controller. |
You can get some functionality with movies if you have the IR receiver from the remote for PS2 and an adapter.
Here is more info if you are interested. I have tried it and I really only use the play/pause button, which comes in handy. I still end up using the controller for menus, but that may be because I was too lazy to go through all the different functions to see what works. I never really touch the remote for anything other than pause/play once a movie starts..

how the hell do u play F.E.A.R on ps3??? i seriously dont get it......... |
I have no idea. Like I said, I will wait on the reviews.. I decided against Virtua Fighter 5 since I now have Tekken in 1080P. I may just wait on MGS or Devil May Cry.... I like an occasional game..but I am not a "gamer". I spend more downtime listening to music and watching movies.
Here is a breakdown for those that don't get it:
1. BluRay: When the PS3 came out, it was by far the cheapest BD player on the market. Many people bought it only for BD with no intention of doing anything else on it. A typical BD player was over $1000 at the time.
(Savings of $400 if you choose a 60GB PS3 and $500 if you buy a 20GB unit (at retail)).
2. SACD capabilities - Instead of buying a stand alone player for my bedroom, I now have SACD capability through the PS3. (
Savings - at least $150)
3.
HDMI 1.3 - Not really a savings, but a technology that is going to be making a splash later this year and into the near future with it being able to carry a compressed lossless audio signal over one HDMI cord. This will also make the SACD player portion of the PS3 competitive with the Denon firewire/Link SACD unit which cost more than twice as much as the PS3 (retail). The SACD HDMI functionality was tested (and compared to the Denon) in Home Theater Mag if you want a current review and do not own one of the few HDMI 1.3 preamps on the market.
4. Internet Surfing - plug in a USB keyboard and surf the net. Not really as great as a computer, but a nice substitute for checking into Forums and email.
5. 60 GB of space for games and other stuff.
6. Slideshows
7. PS2 backward compatibility
8. Playstation Store's free demos and trailers
The features above should help you "get it". If not, then you are probably only into the games and you may have to wait a while before PS3 software catches up with the hardware. But with a 50GB BD, the potential for great games is high.
