@KopaneDePooj and @FullBright1, all I can say is that I have discovered great music from both of you, and I appreciate your contributions to this thread. Kudos to you both :-)

Yes, by all means, FullBright posted great stuff too, he introduced me to Esperanza Spalding which I liked very much. I don't want him to go, I'd like him to grow :)
And I hope he can take a little irony now and then. It's healthy...

Great! :) If you find something that you think fits in with the mood of the list, please add it there.

Done! I just added the last month's worth of FullBright1's songs and the entire Porcupine Tree catalogue to the playlist. He he.

Seriously though, it will be fun to think of appropriate songs to add. Thanks.

FullBright, be bright! :)
The problem with the world we're living in, is that there's too much white noise. Everywhere. We're flooded.
In order for me to know if I like or not what you're posting, I have to start and listen to every video that you're posting. That takes TIME. Valuable time.

And regarding that "guitar thread".
I already created one of those, entitled, "its all about guitar", and you are more then welcome to go and find it.

Found it! Thanks!

p.s. I just listened to the Steffen Schackinger album that you posted here, and it/he was indeed awesome.

As for me, i'll just hang out here..

Not awesome! Nope, you're not allowed to not continue contributing here :-)

Nope,

I just read the Head-F Rule Book, as stated in : Section 3, Amendment 34, Chapter 11, page 567, 2nd paragraph, 14th sentence.........Concerning posting : "annoying generic girl guitar stuff", and it says, and i quote......"Annoying Generic girl guitar stuff, may be posted often, but not limited to daily or hourly, as long as its incorrectly posted as Prog".

So, there you go.
Im playing by the rules, as usual.
Ms "by the Book".
And suddenly the world seems a little brighter and a little better in every way.

Glad i could help....

Excellent. I was going to point out that rule to you, so I'm glad that you found it :-)

define Prog? It used to be if Bruford, Pert, Collins, or Dennard were not drumming it was suspect.

Then it was if the time signatures are unusual and/or its not easy listening maybe it's prog (or post Bitches Brew jazz)

Now I don't care about labels. If its good music I'll listen, if its a great recording x 2.

I'm old and don't listen to much college radio anymore, so that Prog mag, searches and topics like these keep injecting new stuff...

One day I'm not going to wake up anymore, but all this will be going on... So my final thought this night: arguments of definition or merit vs others are an egocentric waste of time.

I try (I have a 15 year old and a 23 year old), but it's very hard to do. Not much of it sounds like music to me lol

Yes sir. I have a 26 and 21 year old and thankfully they listen to and play classic rock, popular prog (yes), with some of the new stuff mixed in (meh). But it's a lot better than when they were 10 and 5 and listening to death metal and kill cop rap - I guess I was as horrified as my parents were when I was listening to Floyd when I was 12 ('69) and went to my first Floyd show at 13 - them being classical and pre bop jazz fans. They left me alone and I left my kids alone.

Boston area features some good college music. I just built an antenna to go with my good tuners and see if I can raise more of them in the rolling hills NW of Boston.

You have a lot of good years left ahead of you.
And, as you continue your journey toward the door named death, that is but a drawing away from you the curtain that reveals the eternity beyond it,
remember that the Love of God, awaits there, for those who chose it while still living..

And regarding your commentary on "what is, what was" Prog.
There was a time that Prog, long long ago, was more influenced by Folk.
Later, the bands you named and others like YES, became the evolution of prog, and now we call it Prog Rock.
Here is a video of a band, recent, that strives to perform, not prog rock, but the type of prog that existed at the beginning of its 1st evolution...

Syd and the jangle acid crowd... they are key, but not the sole font IMO.

Thanks for the kind words, I find universal truth in beds of blooming moss in Northern forests, in the food found in almost all of Italy, and double rainbows among thousands of other things seen, heard, or experienced.
