Professional and Versatile, FIIO’s Desktop High-Res Audio Streamer S15 Is Officially Released!

Are you supposed to pair it that way? I thought you add it in app via the DAP bit and scan QR code?
After pairing the phone when the S15 is in Bluetooth listening mode going back to the S15 settings menu my phone does appear there so that method seems to have worked. I am able to stream music from my phone to the S15 using LDAC codec and everything seems normal. However when I try to add the S15 to the control app it simply locks up the control app, this is on Android, iPhone version of the control app may well work. I have never had an issue adding any of my FiiO devices to the control app until the S15 and the BT11 (which is paired but crashes the app).

@CrystalGipsy when you get a chance please provide some feedback regarding your experiences with the S15, perhaps I'm doing something wrong or maybe I have a faulty S15, no way of knowing without a manual or being able to compare with someone else's experiences.

You should have a dap section or other device from the menu. You need FiiO cast enabled.

The Android control app has a "player" section instead. I will try that when I finish work however perhaps the Android control app needs an update for the S15 as I only get a blue cube for the S15 regardless whether the S15 is available or not.

It was added to FiiO Control two versions ago according to Fiios site.

Whilst I could add it one app closed I can’t reconnect via the icon it shows I have to add it again. So it’s far from perfect and needs work.

Also Roon Ready has crashed on me as well, albeit this isn’t the full approved Roon Ready certification as it’s advertising itself as an R7, naughty FiiO. They did this with the SR11 as well.

12v trigger lead is too short for it to reach my power amp, sadly which means I’ll have to buy one. @FiiO a nice 1m would surely not be a big ask. This is tiny.

Have to say it sounds bloody good and an equal if not a tad than my RME. The fact I can now use app control for volume pays me dividends.

Other than that been playing with some menus and adjusting the display and lights. Might turn this off but at the moment it’s all bling.

Shame only one VU meter and it’s a horrible colour so won’t be using that.

Early days yet, but they really need to sort out the control app as using the screen for it all isn’t ideal. It’s not designed to be a desktop model that’s the R series.

Agreed the VU meters look horrible. How has your experience been with the remote control? Will the S15 work with the 12V trigger and an amp?

I haven’t touched the remote yet. It should work with the amp that’s the whole point of triggers to power them off and on.

Agreed but my amp says 12V trigger out and so does the S15 so shouldn't the S15 say trigger "in" so that when the amp is powered on so is the S15?
I'm not familiar with 12V protocol hence why I'm asking.

No it’s the other way round. The S15 triggers amps on. Amps have triggers in not out. Source devices and preamps which this is will have an out so when you power it in on/off it powers the amp on/off.

Not sure I like the delay whilst it switches dac mode before playback. Likely a protection circuit but it makes a mechanical click quite loudly so must be some relay.

As for powering on you can’t with a BT remote as when it’s off it has no power to it. It’s not in standby mode like other devices it’s properly off. Not sure how much power it uses when not playing music. I will likely turn off all the lights and leave it on if I decide to keep it. It’s like their other devices with regard to power so same R7 as R9.

I suspected as much with regard to powering the S15 on from the remote. Given this is effectively a Hi-Fi source component and not a desktop or portable device not being able to power "on" the S15 from the remote is a pretty big oversight in my opinion. Given the class and price of the S15 it should have had an infra red remote with a standby function.
