In the Netherlands the V6 is a bit of a rarity, really. I went to a Sony dealer, he didn't know of their existence, idiot! Know your product... (Sorry I'm a very critical consumer.)

The V6 has some audiophile aspects yet it is flawed. In my opinion it is too Rock & Roll although Rock sounds really good through the V6, Guns N'Roses

It's not the best audiophile phones but it does give you really neutral response on all frequencies, and easy to drive. What else could you expect from a pair of <$100 phones? I think V6 is a really good start for ppl who want to train their critical listening skill but don't have money to get an expensive pair of AKGs or HD600 and an amp. I think KSC75 and MDR-V6 would be a good combination. One is fun and dynamic while one is analytical and guess what? You can get both of them for less than $120

I use my V6s to listen to everything and my main genres are jazz and hip-hop. Do fine with them although the treble in rock can sometimes be perceived as being a bit cold compared to Koss but the vocal sounds beautiful (maybe because I haven't got a chance to try a K701 or HD600

). Make sure you feed them decent records. The V6 are very revealing so 128kbps mp3s will be a disaster through these phones.

Indeed, a quality source is essential for the V6.

Expensive pair of AKGs? Yeah right, I got lucky and found an AKG K240 DF for 60 euros. I paid 50 euros for the V6 so look around and hunt a bit. The waiting game doesn't always work.

I didn't know what I was missing by listening to 128kbps music on my V6 until I switched to FLAC.

Definitely need good music for those headphones.

I've got a pair of Coby CVE31 buds that I bought for $5-$10. I picked them up because I somehow have the unrealistic idea that one day I will buy cheap phones on a lark, and they will sound great.

One day, maybe, but for now you get what you pay for. Right out of the box they sounded muddled and sloppy, with some distorted mid-bass, zero deep-bass and virtually no high end at all.

Then I replaced the tips with a pair of ER6 flanges that I had laying around...and suddenly...they sounded just as bad.

lol i meant k701. btw how are you finding the K240? (using V6 as reference) I'm very tempted to get a vintage pair to add to my cheap collection

And congrats on the V6 btw. Got my new from amazon for 55GBP + 20GBP for the DT250 ear pads

Reputable Brand, but I don't think they count as Audiophile 'phones.

Bought them to use with guitar amp; way way way before even knowing that there was such a thing as Hi-Fi. i just thought that the $100+ headphones were rip offs. Boy was I ignorant...

Noobiiee, I definitely prefer the DF. The bass and aggressive sound signature of the V6 were often (too) overwhelming. The V6 already has a replacement which sounds like the DF and V6 had a love child with the dominant genes of the DF, the JVC HA DX3.

To be honest, they aren't comparable at all. It's like comparing a 4 cylinder to a super car.

Though in it's defense, I REALLY like the sound the Siberia V1 puts out. It's very warm, relaxing, and bassy.

The DT880 is MUUUUUCH clearer and detailed. Though the Siberia is the most comfortable headphone I have put on. If you were to go with the DT880s, it's a serious upgrade to the Siberia.

I'm actually planning on upgrading to a MS1i and HD555 first, then a K701 and I don't know what afterward
