I'm pretty happy with my HD650s and I have them in a pretty crappy setup.
 
I listen to them in a few different setups, usually:
 
iPod Nano -> LOD -> Marantz 1090 -> HD650
Computer -> Foobar -> Prelude -> HeadAmp 4
Comluter -> Foobar -> FiiO E5 or P4i
 
Very modest setup and certianly not to the standard of many people here on this forum, but I'm quite happy with how this setup sounds.

I'm enjoying this relatively cheap system using, HD650s (double helix cable) MF X-Can V3 Hot rodded amp with MF-X-PSU V8 out board power supply.....Also A Monarchy M22c DAC with (at this Dayton Meet Photo) a DVD-A10 for the transport......

To be frank, I didn't like the HD650 when I first got it and drove it off an Audio-gd compass. Its kind of like the time I went to an expensive Italian restaurant in Beijing... all the right ingredients were there, but it just didn't taste like Italian food made by an Italian. I feel like I have to reach into the  HD650 with my ears to extract the sound... and on top of that I still need to integrate it into a whole. That said, neither the sparrow nor the HD650 are broken in, and they do seem to be sweetening up a bit.

Actually the Compass can easily drive the HD650 by itself but my other can (Yamaha HP-2 circa 1979) needs much more power to drive !

Just put this together - some old and new:
Marantz CD63 KI Sig - Chord OBH21se - HD650
Using the Chord Chameleon Silver Plus 2 interconnects.
 
Still running in I think but so far very much like for first 'good' setup.
