I've been playing around with Ubuntu Linux and really love the new GNOME. You can add a panel to show the temperture and live stock quotes.

Now I wish my WXP desktop looked that good. I really like the super clean 'nothing-on-the-desktop' look.

Nothing preventing you from having a clean WinXP desktop - taoster's is that way, as is mine:

WinXP - nothing on desktop

(It's not COMPLETELY clean, but both the Samurize system information display and the text launcher can be disabled.)

Entropism,

I see you've installed the FireFox spoofstick extension. (Excellent). You can turn off the "You're On" banner and also make it smaller, as you can also disable the Options being shown and just show the full name without the www. prefix. You could also change the colour to match your theme arrows.

the first one is a year old shot of my desktop system. the style hasnt changed much, but there is now a third monitor and a new trillian theme for the XP slice. BSD slice and Slackware slice look almost exactly the same thanks to FluxBox and BlackBox for Windows:

the second is a half year old shot of my laptop which closely resembles how it looks today, minus a few upgrades.

BG is self rendered using a POVRay clone. First WM is BB4Win, second is Flux Box, both are my personal themes. The little matrix looking terminal on the bottom right corner of the second shot is a root-tail with a 15 minute timeout screensaver to c-matrix. rather fun looking if you ask me.

unfortunately, on the bottom bar, you can also spot a windows media player 10. LOL...

I guess im a sucker to upgrade to WMP 10 eh ?

I personally think that both old WM and new ones are doing the same thing in my case, i only watch some mpg and listen to some mp3 anyway... i dont need all that extra crap and online stuff...
