I have often wondered how did M$ end up using this nauseating default backgroung colour? I mean, a plain blue, green, red or whatever would have been more pleasing IMO and not this yuchy colour straight from a gutter.

I apologize for the mess on my desktop. I have a lot of shortcuts that shouldn't be there and a lot that should be there (reinstalled windows fairly recently. Need to resintall my games!!)

I love Greg Martin's space desktops. This isn't even some of his better work IMO.

They probably chose it as it is easy on the eyes, unassuming and inoffensive. It suits me fine and, unless you spend all day looking at your desktop, I really don't see any need for any other colours or graphics...... I switch on, connect to the net and switch off, I seldom see the default MS desktop colour.

That's not a wallpaper, lol

That's microsoft Flight Simulator's multi monitor support. Yes, that is a game, one game to be specific, spanned across all those computers/monitors at the same time.

I set it to just install for me, and I haven't had any problems with it. My AV and whatnot still load up on boot just fine. The one problem I've had that just recently cropped up is that it won't fully boot if I log on to my account. If I log on to someone else's first (who isn't running Litestep), then log out and into mine, it loads fine. Alternately, I can just kill Litestep and then re-run it once I have a desktop. Don't ask me why.

As for the minimalist background, Pinkie, I hear you, man. I ran a plain black (I'm not overly fond of M$'s default color either, but to each their own) background for years when I was running 9x. 95-ME, actually (yes, I ran ME, for a few months, until it started crashing for no reason). When I got XP I had an upgraded computer and decided I could spare the RAM and have pretty. Usually I used pictures I had taken. Here's a couple...

This 'un was taken on our stovetop, actually. I was making an espresso and noticed how nice the grounds looked scattered on the stove. So I threw the towel I was using down there, took the shot, and then ran it through some heavy sepia filters in Photoshop. I think I fiddled with Levels a bit, too.

This is the 10 year field (quick explanation... a farmer can get paid by the U.S. government to not plant any crops in a field for 10 years, for conversation purposes. Hence the name 10 year) in front of our house in Nebraska. This was about a 20 second exposure at night that was metered for the field, as you can see. All I really did was lower the brightness a bit more so's to make the grasses completely black, as they showed up a tad. I had this one for a long time. Still one of my favorite pictures I ever shot.
