Collecting musical instruments is just so much more costly than buying headphones: A Stradivarius violin was sold for $3.5million within 5 minutes in an auction just a few days ago.

How much do harps cost anyway?

What's the point of buying something so expensive? If I had something that expensive, I'd be scared to touch it in case I damaged it somehow.

That's really cool! I'm sure it'd sound really good when strung. I can't even begin to imagine how much it would cost to get it restrung! Restringing my violin already costs around $100 (cost of strings), but that's only for 4 strings that are maybe a quarter of the length of one of the longer strings on the harp.

Come on, guys, any drummers around here?
(I play piano too.)

I won't post pictures of either, both are POSs, and the drumset is crammed in a corner of the basement with the cat litter.

Actually, the drumset's quite nice, you just can't tell from it's surroundings.

I used to pay 80 bucks for my C string alone. Made of tungsten, but it sounded awesome! I think it was $130 for bottom 2 strings, and another 40 for the top 2.

Pirastro Evah Pirazzi set plus Oliv E string costs over $100 in the United Kingdom. The same would cost around $50-60 in the US and in Hong Kong.

Do you play the cello? The cello C is so darn long and thick!

I'm taking the "and more" seriously here!

Here's my clarinet (Buffet R13):

Here's me with my Bari Sax last year:

The organ console at my church (without me seated at it, sorry):

And don't let the pistons trick you, they're controlled my setter boards, no capture combination action, so it's a total pain anyway.

Here's a few pics of some of the pipes up above. It's a II/20 or so Moller. Small, and in poor repair, but a competent instrument, built around the turn-of-the-century:

The Great:

The also ARS Mixture III (half of it):

Original facade pipes. They're Violin Cellos and Diapasons (left, right):

The 16' Trumpets and 16' Bourdons:

Top half of those:

I also played clarinet, bass clarinet, and alto sax for pit this year (Pirates of Penzance), but no pics, sorry. I just realized I don't have any good pics of my music-related stuff. I guess I just experience music so much, I never feel the need to take pics of it, kind of like work.

Hey that's great! I see you love playing music too! I actually have an organ at home, but it doesn't have pipes. It's my dad's:

It's in the sitting room, which has a really high ceiling. Apparently, having the speakers facing towards the walls makes the experience more church/cathedral-like.

I am a drummer, pianist, and harmonica player (is there a single-worded noun for this?

)...

Below are some pictures:

Four of my diatonic harmonicas, and my C-tuned chromatic.

My Yamaha keyboard. It sounds WONDERFUL, and has magnificent MIDI/computer features, but I just wish that more of the controls were analog.

My Yamaha Stage Custom drum set. As you can see, it has many years of abuse on it...
biggrin.gif
I recently upgraded the tom heads to some nice high-quality Evans ones from my so-so Yamaha replacements. It features another mid-tom that I usually don't use. I have the follow Zildjian A Customs: Crash, Splash, Hi-Hat. I have a Wuhan Ride and a Wuhan Splash, but I usually don't use the Splash unless whatever I'm playing calls for it. A nice trashy sound, when used, though. The bass pedal is the DW4000.

The restringings not that bad, only about $500 to have it professionally done by Lyon & Healy, it's the shipping that kills you, $1k each way.
