I'm still waiting parts to build a better amp for them but driven from the SRM-717, I think I prefer the MKII, just give me more relaxing, sweeter feeling. Both sound amazing and would take a serious listening session to figure out the difference but so far I like the new one more. Maybe that's just a new-toy syndrome.
 
They are huge, comparing to the HD800 but very, very comfortable. Someday I might be crazy and sell all the dynamic stuffs, then order the BHSE and call it a day, but still trying to lengthen the audio journey. Just too soon to end now.

I see the XTZ speakers mentioned a bit on AVForums. Would you concur with the general opinion of owners in that for the money you won't get anything better?

That's a fairly good CD player. You'll benefit more from a proper amp though.
