New CPU Heatsink, a Xigmatek s128. Using pushpins since I don't want to remove my motherboard, only three connected. Core temp for stock e8400 approx. 43C under normal (non-gaming) use in 80F weather. (Not sure if that's bad)

Why would you drop money on a nice heatsink if you don't want to use it properly?  I can almost guarantee it isn't seated correctly.  If I were you I would take the effort to make sure you did it right.  You could probably install it while the motherboard is still in the case, too.

What components are you putting into your new build?

Sure,

Intel Core i7-920
Titan Fenrir V2 TTC-NK85TZ
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UDR3 v1 (v2 came out a week after I bought the mobo, no wonder the price was lower).
6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3, DDR3
ATi HD4950 512MB
500GB Samsung HD502HJ Spinpoint F3
1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3
Antec 300 case
LiteOn IHAS124-19 24x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA
Coolermaster GX 650W PSU - 6x SATA 2x PCI-E 80plus Certified
Some very quiet 120mm fans.
Oh, and Windows 7 64bit (that I picked up when it was first released and dirt cheap)

Letting it all bed in and working out what software to put on it (have so much *unnecessary stuff* on my old PC), then I'll o/c it. It all feels so more robust than my old PC. Two of my external HDDs have eSATA ports so will hook those up and use one as a cache for Photoshop (so nice awesome to have no lag processing photos

). Also I can play Half Life 2 at full resolution now, my newest game and not that demanding hardware-wise.

It's more of a replacement, my old stock one died. I tried very hard to get all four pins in, but the motherboard just won't take. (I fear that further force could even damage it or perhaps even the chip)

Very nice specs.  Our systems are going to perform similarly.  I've always liked Antec cases, but this time I wanted to try something different so I went with NZXT.

Here are my parts, other than the CPU which is already at home.

MYSTERY PUZZLE: WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

It's not bad, however, it's not the big picture.  Run something that stresses the CPU to see if your inability to get to the last pin is causing the HS/F to not sit properly.  If your CPU temps hit 80C, you're really going to have to figure out a better way.

Not sure how accurate it is, but using Real Temp GT in ~80F (27C) weather:

I'm using a Xigmatek s128 with AS5 compound and stock p182 case. (Not exactly high end, just wanted something cheap and quiet). Other programs running - Utorrent, Avast, Google Chrome, misc.

Really? Cause everywhere I've read online, people are getting much lower temps with the same cooler. Oh well, as long as the PC works.

Last week I bought a silver Yamaha transverse flute for a very special girl. She used to play this instrument as a kid, sold it in her teens to get a guitar. Now, almost 15 years later she stills regrets selling it. You should've seen her face when she figured out I bought her the exact same model she had as a kid for her birthday. Priceless!

Oh, and you wanna talk about cpu cooling? I have a lapped Scythe Mugen 2 with MX-2 paste that can beat up your Xigmashmecks anyday!

Keeping my AM3 720BE with unlocked 4th core @ 3,5ghz on a steady 33 idle, 44 load! In the summer! Pwnd!
