Can someone tell me if the optical out of the older pcdps are indeed better than the new ones? I read somewhere that the older models without esp/antishock (or fist generation selectable esp) have significantly better optical out, is this true?

Does the optical output of the CT540 function on battery power or only when connected with the AC adapter, as Kramer noted about his Panasonics?

I ordered it last thursday, so it should be here in the next few days. I'll let you know about the AC Adapter and optical when I get it...well, I guess I should get on ordering that D1 now so I can use the optical

I think you'll be very pleased by the D1's versatility and sound quality. Mine is approaching 250 hours on the burn-in and it's still evolving nicely. It already sounds superb with both my MacBook and Sony D-EJ2000.

But I'm also looking forward to rolling in the AD8066 opamp and AD8397 buffers, which HiFlight and jamato8 say elevates it on par with the Xin Reference.

Do any of the Archos players have digital output?

Through the DVR dock, so if someone gets the dock pinout, someone could make an SPDIF out cable or something.
