I have my headphones plugged into the green jack on the back of my motherboard and the speakers plugged into the black jack. My question is: does this have any negative drawbacks? Will it split the power necessary to drive the headphones between the two so there is a degrading of sound quality?
 
If I have the speakers off, does that still affect the headphones? Or is it constantly drawing power? Anything else that might be a problem due to plugging in both the headphones and speakers?
