Hey so I have been an audiophile all my life, but have put up with really crappy headphones due to budget constraints (and lack of technical know-how if I'm being honest). I hope that all of you with tons of experience where I have none would be willing to help. I finally have some money and I would love some decent cans. This all started because my friend told me to get some Beats. I listened to his and was thoroughly disappointed. I will mostly be using with ipod and macbook for extended periods of time. Durability is a plus. I listen to all genres of music, from metal to Celtic, etc. I like nice bass, but not so that it sounds messy. I would like to pay around $150, but am willing to pay more if it is really worth it. Oh and I am a girl with a smallish head, so I would like them to be comfortable. I really appreciate any input!

hd555's are a great set of headphones for the price though not portable. you can get them for about 80-100 bucks if you look around. they are not particularly bass heavy but does has pretty clear mid and highs.

or go for koss portapros... they are arguably one of the best portable headphones around for under 100 bucks.
