Isn't it simply better to just use the switch and drop the USB X4 and the Muon Pro by simply plugging the streamer into the MPS-X Edelweiss?Even better is to make the Red a pure NAA streamer or Diretta Target to USB output to the USB X4 module. Also, for a good measure, throw in a Network Acoustics Tempus switch and 2x Network Acoustics Muon Pro streaming system before the Red: 1 NA Muon pro streaming system connecting your router to the Tempus switch and another NA Muon Pro streaming system after Tempus to Holo Audio Red. Let your jaws drop on how crazy good this setup sounds before the USB X4 module going to MPD-8 DAC![]()

You can still net some gains with Muon Pro -> Tempus -> Muon Pro -> MPS-X -> Plink to MPD-8
If you feed the MPS-X with very clean Ethernet, it will translate to better sound through the MPD-8 even if using Plink

If you have the MPS-X or MPT-8 you don’t need the USB-X4. That’s made for those of us that don’t have those units.Isn't it simply better to just use the switch and drop the USB X4 and the Muon Pro by simply plugging the streamer into the MPS-X Edelweiss?
Ah i thought the MPS-X was just an even better version of the USB-X4 but that both could be used on the same units depending of your budget !
Edit : So side question that came now to my mind as an afterthought but what is the most efficient way for using a streamer / server if you don't use the optional streaming module from the MPT or MPS ? Switch into the Streamer Server of your choice / into MPS-X into MPD using PLINK ?

I have the mpsx. It has its own power supply and its own streaming function. Though I have the Oladra which can do both server and streaming duties, I still opt to keep the mpsx due to how it works so great with the MPD8.Yeah, from everything I hear. I believe @F208Frank has one. It’s on my list eventually. Seems the usb and plink is the best option with the MPD8, though I’m sure others have had success with other options.

So, I had a holo red sitting around forever. I hooked it up to my maybe to be sold May. Using same source chain Mac studio, and it as a DDC USB to I2S, instantly darker background. So yea, now I realize how much 'noise' was in the chain....I ordered the usb x4. Here's to hoping it parallels the red at the very least.
Curious what you think of the usb x4. Considering either the usbx4 to use with Innuos pulsar Phoenix usb or to get a Nagra streamer with plink. To use on a Nagra DAC.
So in the end you use the MPS-X for the streaming and just keep the Oladra as your server ? How much on an improvement is the MPS-X in the streaming mode compared to the Oladra ?I have the mpsx. I think likely oladra is the better player bur if using mpd8, the benefits of using mpsx as streamer works better. For my case at least.
Thanks for your input Frank. Anyone compared the MPS-X to a Grimm MU1 or something in that price range since the Oladra is way more expensive than the MPS-X
