I bought a black one a couple weeks ago. To me, $15 is a bargain. Sounds super. Although, when I plug it in I get a message about firewire not being supported. I just Click the middle button to clear the message and enjoy.

Honestly, can't discern the difference between the $15 LOD and the LOD I soldered up using SPC wire.

btw, welcome to Head-fi. My apologies to your wallet.

Thanks for the help

Now I'm struck by the dilemma that adding one of those would mean iPod wouldn't fit in its new case whilst plugged in. Perhaps it's time to chat up one of the low-profile LOD builders round here, or break out the soldering iron myself...

Thanks. I just put it in my NW-HD5 favorites list and will pick one up for my NW-HD5 setup soon.

Here are two pics of my "portable audio stuff," as it were. When I last posted pics, my brand new 4GB Fuze was naked (or in the nude, if you prefer). And incredibly embarassed, too, as evidenced by its red color.

Purchased at "Buy More," is my HandStands Sansa Fuze 3-in-1 kit, which contains a leather grain body glove for the Fuze and a protective, zippered hardshell case. Spending more than I like or should, I got the kit, and soon clothed my moritified Fuze, alias "Son of Reddie," in it.

It looks fairly spectacular, IMHO. Well protected, especially the screen, which is behind the stitched clear plastic cover. However, everything doesn't line up so perfectly, so on-the-fly adjustments are needed on occasion. The hardshell case is also very nice, and has a mesh pocket for storing...not much. Maybe a thin pack of gum or the credit card that was maxed out to purchase it.

Here are two atmospheric pics of my rig, which now contains my matching headphones, the amazing JVC Air Cushions (HA-FX66R):

All the best.

A question for all those who have an amp tied around their player.. Do you buy jeans especially with fat pockets? Do you all wear combats? I have maybe one pair of jeans where I could fit both an iPod and an amp doubled up in the pockets. I'm tempted to use a mini to mini cable around my back (going through those same holes that belts go through (not an ideal cable length

) as it actually seems more sensible right now than not wearing some of my jeans. This is the first time I've wished my coats/jackets had an inner pocket, even if the strange chest bulge would raise a few eyebrows.

You're at least thinking about practicality, which some of these folk don't do at all. >.>

In my experience, you do not need a portable amp unless you're trying to power hard-to-drive headphones. Most of these headphones are not portable. So the idea of a portable amp tied to one's DAP is somewhat silly and definitely cumbersome and a hassle.

I had an iPod Nano 3G run into a Headphonia portable amp; I got rid of the whole thing because it was just too much trouble to lug around.

I suppose some people have different definitions of "portable" and what they do with their "portable" rig may be different; some should more accurately classify them as transportable or travel rigs.

But when my portable player is used, it is used while I am walking, out and about, generally with little space to carry a lot of extra crap. I can get away with a little more than you guys can, since I do carry a purse, but it's already stuffed to capacity with all the other junk I have to tote around.

Not to mention the extra carrying capacity of a purse is offset by the general lack of pocket capacity in women's clothing. I swear these designers must believe pockets to be purely decorative, and heaven forbid that a girl would ever want to put anything in her pockets.

Unless you're wanting sound quality. Using a Line Out Cable connected to a high quality amp will provide outstanding sound quality which will be immediately noticeable.

To test this, simply connect a dock-equipped DAP, such as an iPod, to a home stereo system with a headphone out. You'll detect the difference in sound quality and an external, high quality amp so connected will provide portability of that same sound quality.
