Today's rig... At the library studying, and sporting X3ii with CLAP and Havi B3 Pro 1. Pretty special.

Here's my portable setup - Fiio X5, FiioE12 and ATH-M50x.  I don't do much on-the-go listening - just carry this when I'm going somewhere I know I'm going to have to wait.  I use it out on the deck too.
 

 
The short cord on the 50's is nice.

Very nice. Do you use the bass boost in the e12? Could you try it and let me know how the m50x responds?

No, I rarely use the bass boost.  I'm not a big bass head.  I don't use the equalizer in the X5 either.  The bass boost on the E12 is a rather broad gentle boost - not a spike-type effect.  If you find the 50's bass-deficient, I don't know if the boost on the E12 would be what you're looking for.  The equalizer in your player might be a better place to start.

+ totally agree ....have Fiio X5 + E12 .....the bass boost is actually very mild ....used to have E11 where the boost at level one is very noticeable while at level two ....it can really shake and drum you to death ...Lol

No kidding, John built this baby to expressly drive my 702's and I have never once even considered toggling the bass boost switch
