From what I know, the three were supposed to go together (the mushroom/wastebin shaped item is a bass module of sorts, I assume (the text "SUPER BASS EXCITER" would seem to support that, but I have no idea what its actual function is, or if it was actually part of the above speakers)). 
 
There's also the Technics Linear Phase series:

 

 
I believe the model in the second picture, if memory serves, uses something like a 21 or 22" woofer, and they weigh something like 300 lbs each (to give you some idea about their size).

And you'll notice the screen is no longer there - it's a removable remote that communicates bi-directionally with the unit. Any settings or adjustments are made from that panel, and all options are visible regardless of the panel's location. Before anyone gets too excited about having this in their living room; it's fairly dated.
