I tried also with the foam rings from the Hifiman leather pads but they didn't work out well as stuffing material, it became too boomy/lacking highs/warm so the material itself will play some role too.
Yes. The Shure pads didn't do a whole lot to improve the soundstage to my ears either. Making the stock pads deeper with stuffing does increase the soundstage but also decreases the mids so I didn't like it. Maybe if you really play around with the thickness of the stuffing you will hit a sweet spot but too much work for me.
