By the way, do you have the black pair or the the white pair?

Thanks everyone else for the colour updates and the pics.

Mine was black so does the new pair I got. The new pair slund better than the old one I had for whatever reason. I just hope it will last long.
Phonak should really look into the issue so they won't waste time and resource on sending replacement at the same time scare potantial buyer away.

A theory regarding mainly left earpiece cracking - What if it's because the the majority of people being right handed, making left ear insertion a little more awkward, probably with more twisting involved. Any defective materials/design used will fail quicker when put under more stress. So, does that mean those with cracked right earpieces are left handed? Just a thought and the fact I even entertained this theory means I really should get out more.

I believe both HiFlight and jleewatch have gotten replacement PFEs. I know HiFlight did, because he posted it in the Yuin G1A thread (he did a review of the Yuin clips) and jleewatch posted that he re-bought them (after sending them back for a refund). You can check with them, but I read those posts.

Okay, thanks.

I simply give the Shure Olives a squeeze, hold the silver part, and then gently push in.

So far, no defects to speak of.

This is pretty much what I do as well, along with twisting it a bit when it is in my ear to get a better seal.

Start with right ear first then the left. Maybe that makes a difference !

Yes, I got a replacement, but not by choice...Phonak stated that they must issue refund to same account number as purchase. Since my card number changed because of a security issue, they would not issue a refund. The account was the same, but number was different. IMO, they were inflexible in dealing with an issue that involved credit card security.

I was out of town for a few days and wow how quickly the threads grow around here....

Anyway, as I have mentioned before and I confirmed with Phonak last week, they are working with the manufacturer on the reason for the defect. I can confirm again that the rate of cracks is VERY small in relation to the total number of units in use at this point. This is true of the total number we have shipped in the US versus the replacements. The cracks do appear to be isolated for the most part to the non microphone black version.

We will continue to replace any defective PFEs no questions asked. The current stock of product shipping are a later production run and so far we have not had any returns because of cracks.

Hope that helps and thanks again for input.

PM me with any specific questions or concerns.

Bill

Unfortunately, the credit card companies dictate these rules not the merchant. We can refund to the original card number charged and if the account is closed, they will issue a check to the card holder.

Not really a flexibilty issue. Have to follow the card issuer rules or the merchant can get in big trouble.

X2 It's not really up to them. All major retail chains have this same policy.

Just glad to hear from you Bill. Seems that your data is reflected here, both on the low number of white failures (so far, one cable issue) and the black "cracked" product and a much lower replacement percentage with the second pair issued. Thanks.

My bank said that if a refund was issued to my closed debit account, it would be sent back to the sender, and there would no check issued to the account holder. As Phonak already had my funds, instead of issuing a refund to the credit card, they perhaps could have issued a check directly to me, thus avoiding any issues of legality regarding the credit card.

I have Audeo PFE 112 black.
Box date: 2008-10-16.
Left earphone Crack: some cracks in the left earphone, exactly as others have reported, but it didnt get bigger.
Right earphone Crack: big crack in the right earphone, in a different place, near the wire.

I contacted Phonak and Hören mit Fiebing (seller).
Received reply from the seller to send them the PFEs for replacement.
I asked and they told me they had received a new PFE shipment, but they didnt knew the batch.
I still didnt had the time to send them.
