Phillips SHP9600
Oct 16, 2020 at 9:14 PM Post #16 of 43
I got the two over the past couple of weeks, and bass is definitely more present in the SHP9600. To me SHP9600 sounded like it had a bump in the mid/upper bass region compared to the X2HR. The SHP9600 has a more pronounced V-shaped sound then X2HR, which sounded more neutral in comparison. Overall I slightly preferred the X2HR's sound, but I had to return it because I found it too uncomfortable for my big head.
SHP's look to have a stronger upper bass hump, with a steeper slope down from ~100hz, making lower bass particularly weak. For my listening tastes, think the SHP will stay on my list of good cans that don't suit my sound sig.

Yeah between the two, the X2HR had better bass extension and the SHP9600's upper bass bump caused some muddiness in some songs. It's definitely has it faults, but I still find it pretty enjoyable, specially if you can get it for around $100.

Okay sound. Cheap open full size with comfy fabric mesh earpads. On sale, and came bundled with aftermarket mic.

Taped front baffle to add some warmth to sound, but 2kHz dip was exacerbated.

How to remove driver? Glued in. Prying at edges is not working because I am worried I may break plastic baffle. I could try popping out from front side but that would destroy driver. Hmmm

350degrees for 5min is too much. Driver came out easy but also warped baffle and unglued silk screens. Maybe a hair dryer next time. Or just pop drivers out from front side since Id really no plan for reusing them anyway.

Much easier to pop out from front. Ruined old driver though.

Ill ask Philips about replacement bafflr or just order another headphone.

Peerless driver on right. Accidentally brushed my finger against and lightly dented. Wonder how much effect that has on sound. No worries, $10 piece.

Works. My first soldering was not good. Sealed in place with damplifier pro.
