Philips SHP9500 Discussion Thread

Yes, they are amped with a Polaris from a Modi2U dac. I was actually really impressed with the bass of the shp9500s relative to the Beyers but I just subjectively prefer them. And I'm very used to them

Yeah, I feel you. Just wondered, because I found the sound really thin unamped, but a little juice went a long way.

xDuoo X3 Rockboxed mated to a Topping NX1 by a NewFantasia 0.1m interconnect driving the Philips SHP9500 with 2mm felt mod / Mediabridge 4' 3.5mm M-M cable.

Just wonder why you use NX1 for X3? Is it better than the HO? Thanks.

I posted what your asking about in #2697 of the xDuoo X3 thread in the portable source subforum.  http://www.head-fi.org/t/782912/xduoo-x3-dsd-24bit-192khz-cs4398-chip-lossless-music-player/2685#post_12459929

"Weeks ago (pre Rockbox) I reported this about using the NX1 external amp with my X3 and IEMs:   "Honestly I don't find any substantive SQ difference between the X3 as a standalone or coupled with the NX1.  I do like the convenience of the volume knob on the NX1 when shirt pocket carrying the DAP though."

Recently I've been advised for the time being to forego any extended use of IEMs.  I picked up a pair of the heavily hyped (appropriately so) inexpensive Philips SHP9500 which I tweaked as described here http://tinyurl.com/z48euu5 I also swapped the stock 10' cable out for a solidly built Mediabridge 4' 3.5mm M-M cable which is the perfect length for use with my X3.  On a whim I decided to try the X3-Rockboxed/NX1 combination with the SHP9500s (no EQ just the Meier crossfeed active).  This time there does indeed seem to be a difference in SQ with a wider soundstage and more impactful bass over the X3 as a standalone with these very lightweight super comfortable 50mm neodymium driver cans.  Color me pleasantly surprised

No need for an adapter. All Vmoda cables will fit. I have the Boompro and an audio only cable.

I don't like the stock cable because it is too long.
